Not one, but two judges were parachuted suddenly, and with absolutely no reason given, to hear cases related to the Perak constitutional crisis. Malaysiakini: Abdul Aziz is a High Court judge who was just transferred from Sarawak. Today was his first day at work [...] So, there’s been a lot of brouhaha about ex-Umno lawyer Zaki Azmi’s ascension to the highest judicial post in the land. Some time back, I heard some Pakatan higher-ups say that he’s a decent guy. His inaugural speech also appears to have been well received – people seem to think he said many of the right [...] Malaysiakini: The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam video clip has recommended that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad be investigated under various laws for his role in the appointment of judges. Other persons also named to face possible action are former chief justices Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and Eusoff Chin, senior lawyer VK Lingam, [...] Polytikus reminded me that the Lingam report should be under OSA presently – can anyone confirm or refute this? Because if it is, our ex-PM has just admitted to have breached that unjust law which has served him well in the past. As someone who has been arrested under suspicion of violating the OSA, I most certainly [...] I can hardly believe it, Fairuz nailed? Well, something is afoot, we shall have to keep an eye out. Outstation until Sunday, wrote many posts to compensate – see you soon! Two major comments on the PM’s speech tonight: Firstly, the monetary payments to the families of the sacked judges. What the hell does Abdullah think this is, Umno? One does not restore honour via crude payoffs, one restores honour by admitting mistakes, apologising and restoring the dignity [...] Quick question – does anyone know what happened to the report of the royal commission that was supposed to have been submitted some time back? Another one of Abdullah’s trump cards? :P :) A brief comment on the call to launch a legal investigation against Mahathir. You would think that with all the animosity, Abdullah would be jump at the opportunity to embarrass Mahathir. Unfortunately for him, Umno is the epitome of the glass house in which one does not dare throw stones. The resulting war of revelations could spiral [...] ?!?! It started off well enough, but yesterday, RC Chairman Haidar Md Noor said it best: “We are not concerned with corruption.” How much more blows to our integrity can we take?
