Update 24th Jan: Sorry this took so long, but you can now also contact me at nat[at]jelas[dot]info :) (amazingly, I opened it for the first time today, and it already has spam! :P )
Hullo! :)
I, Nathaniel Tan (nat), believe in goodness (yeah yeah :), and in progress. I guess it’s our (siapa lagi?) responsibility to put in an effort to bring about change, so here’s one of my teeny attempts. The onus is on us, after all.
I’ll try to offer hopefully intelligent observations about the daily news by attempting to make connections, point out inconsistencies and call things as I see them. I’m going to try hard to use ‘constructive’, ‘objective’, ‘informative’, ‘honest’ and ‘incisve’ as my watchwords at all times.
My focus will be on social and political issues that affect the rakyat here in Malaysia, and I’ll try to give extra attention to issues I see as undercovered.
I believe very strongly that ’sensitive’ issues need to be discussed, not swept under the carpet. Unlike today’s government, I believe Malaysians are mature enough to discuss things that concern us all deeply in a responsible, rational and objective manner - and that we can self-police to drown out the hate-mongers (politician wolves in sheeps clothings included) among us.
Things I’m likely to keep harping on are those to do with civil liberties, the need for more open discourse, integrity and transparency, abuse of authority, migration, ethnicity in politics, and so on. This translates into stuff like freedom of speech issues, detention without trial, corruption, and why the BN system may be a little less than perfect.
Of course, much of what I write will just be plain commentary on whatever’s in the news.
So there it is. If you see me failing to live up to what I’ve set out here, please call me on it - I’m depending on you to.
