I have been meaning to write about the Norizan case for some time now. Of the material and coverage I’ve come across, the best narrative appears to be from Merdeka Review – I read the BM version, edited by an old friend of mine, Hong Siang.
Using this article and the police report that was made, I have pieced together the following narrative. Comments follow:
On the 30th of October 2009 at around 4.30am, Norizan bt Salleh – a single mother of a 10 year old child with no criminal record – was traveling with three friends, getting a ride to her home in Segambut. She was seated in the back of the car on the left side.
An MPV filled with police suddenly appeared alongside them, and the police asked them to stop. Norizan asked the driver to comply, but he refused. Without warning, the police then began opening fire into the vehicle.
Norizan was shot five times before the car was forced to stop. Two shots hit her arm and wrist, another hit her chest, causing uncontrollable bleeding. As she crawled out of the car, unarmed and pleading for help, she was kicked and stomped on by the police until her rib cages broke.
At no point was there any procedural detention or interrogation. Norizan said all her friends in the car were brutalised and in an attempt to force a confession to robbery. Norizan has still not been charged with any offense.
Her medical bills, including treatment at the National Heart Institute for the wound near her heart, have run up to some RM 20,000. The police have refused to pay for this cost.

What the hell kind of country do we live in?! Some cowboy town?
At no point were the police under threat, and there is absolutely no indication that non-lethal means to force the car to stop were exhausted before resorting to a shooting spree.
They instead demonstrated complete and utter lack of discrimination between possible suspects and innocents within the car, and displayed the worse acts of inhuman cruelty to an unarmed, almost mortally wounded woman crawling out of a car pleading for help.
Norizan was lucky to have escaped with her life. Others were not.
When will it all end?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – we can’t vote the police out of anything, but we sure as hell can vote their bosses out.
I don’t ever want any of my loved ones to suffer anything like this just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nowadays, Malaysians have accepted the fact that the only difference between the police and the serious street criminals is that the former wear uniform with a badge. That’s all! What a shame, especially to many of the good people in the force, whom I am sure would not condone such barbarism.

When a Rottweiler mauls a kid, the dog’s owner must bear full responsibility. In the case of the PDRM it all goes back to the home minister – and, ultimately, the prime… I mean, crime minister!
SOP lah. Shoot to kill. There is no such thing as wrongly shot. Ever heard of enquiry into any shooting? If one is innocent, congrats lor. Just been upgraded to criminal-shot-dead.
What if poolice work as hired killers. You know, murphy’s law.
The police should be sent back to school to learn and understand some manners and mankind. Shame on you police. I really hate you since I was in form 3, fifty -four years ago. Well they can do things as they like ’cause they are given license…lisense to kill.
This just proves again that the existence of justice in this country is… oh wait, what justice? is there any to begin with in the first place?

AS EXPECTED when it comes to our law enforcement officer. I never trust them and never will I trust them. Those day the chinese will always kena abused and brutalize by these idiots. Now malays also kena. I am not a racist but the way the police are doing their job. They are getting more ruthless, much bolder, and every ready to kill for the sake of killing.
LIke in robbers case… funny isnt it that all the robbers are shot dead before they are caught and it seems that they ( police) shot back because they (robbers) shot at them. BUt I heard otherwise that killing them is better than send them to court and waste of money feeding them. So shooting them and framing them for carrying a gun. Well… according to the streets. This is what I heard.
I kesian with norizan but now after what had happened. She is now awake to see the light. She will hate the government for doing this to her and her friends. I hope norizan be very brave to go to the voting station and do what you feel you should do with our present government. JUst vote them out..!!!! simply because you, norizan want a better tomorrow rather then being shot at. And dont think you are thankful to be alive because the police just shoot for the sake of shooting. You are damn lucky. And even if norizan dies, there is always a cover up like a robbery or assination or some crab. Leave it to the pdrm, macc and warden in prison. Look at Raja azman..!!!
