I really wish I could find that clip on Youtube.
You ever watch the (eminently enjoyable) Hunt for Red October?
Remember one of the final scenes? Where the Secretary of Defense or something is settling matters with the Soviet ambassador?
Even though it doesn’t catch the fun acting, I’m eminently grateful to Drew, who transcribed:
Ambassador: There is another matter… one that I’m reluctant to…
Secretary: Please.
Ambassador: One of our submarines…an Alfa… was last reported in the area of the Grand Banks…. We have not heard from her for some time.
Secretary: Andrei. (look of disbelief) You’ve lost another submarine?
But of course, tragicomically, truth is stranger than fiction.
In beloved Malaysia, Porsches get stolen from police compounds, and fighter jet engines mysteriously disappear from RMAF bases.
“The investigations revealed RMAF’s logistics system was full-proof. However, the shady activity might have been carried out staff in the lower rungs in cahoots with outsiders,”
Aha!
First, credit to the Bernama reporter who wrote “full-proof,” and the editor that ‘caught’ it. (Perhaps the kind editors at MK should also go through the mistakes in that article again).
a) I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how Zahid would’ve spelt it, given the chance
b) It’s probably more accurate, in that the BN government is truly incapable of being “fully” there. Or perhaps, no matter how much corruption it eats, it is never “full.”
Also: it appears that some staff were carried out along with the engine during the operation? :|
But grammar Nazi-ism aside, you really have to love Zahid’s reasoning: “RMAF = foolproof, which must obviously be why, low ranking staff and ‘outsiders’ managed to break into it.”
Sigh. Usually foolproof means even a fool can understand and use something. In this case, it probably means even a fool could have walked in and stolen a RM 50 million engine.
RM 50 million of our money. Gone. Just like that.
Does he expect us to believe that the only people who got rich off this affair were a few corporals and ’shady outsiders?’
I think that our mighty submarine, the KD Altantuya, clearly shows that no arms deal of that scale goes down in Malaysia without some fat honcho getting fatter over it.
Fullproof indeed :P

What a beautiful country. Can easily get C4 to blow up people and fighter jet engines can go missing just like that. Mind you, the jet engine is not the size of a can of Campbell soup.
What next? A couple of missiles?
Probably, the next missing item will either be the jet itself or our new submarine engines etc etc. But never will any BN ministers or leaders responsible will go missin.., bcos they are thick skin, unlike their Western counterparts. Not surprising to hear & see that Mahathirism ideology was & is the epicentre of all socio-eco-political havocs taking place in our beautiful and beloved country.
Now even jet fighter engine can go missing no surprise Bala can go missing within 24hours. C4 can be obtain from the military depot. Who is the Defence Minister when this stupid thing happen? One day we will not be surprise that the military depot will be taken over by mat rempit. Now another 50m tax payer money have been lost. Who to blame?
Do you all remember the money in the police custody? seized money, evidence for trial? All gone missing!! Or do you remember the number of “fires” reported? How about the computers missing from the school offices? With the way Bank Negara is “looking” after our money who knows whether the gold reserves are still there? What about all the “old” money for the incinerator? And do you remember? The way outsiders broke into the army amoury and robbed the army of the firearms??
I hate to ponder one day we have nuclear station and similar traitors will sell the uranium for the soul of the country. It is not so easy to steal a jet engine so there are people with connections …. the CIA should be asked to investigate these… the get rich mentality at any costs … is there no law and order or sense of love for the country…
Air Force Chief General Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin was promoted to the topdog position as Chief of Defence Forces when he replaced General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal sometime Aug/Sept 2009. This is the reward for the Air Force chief for letting his RM50million Jet engine go missing under his foolproof system.
So you see, when you screw up, you get promoted under UMNO/BN rule. For those who wish to know more of him…read the interview below in the attached link.

MALAYSIA BOLEH. Now jet engine can easily ddissappear. What next? Is action going to be taken or is it another ploy to deceive the public. We are not fools to be cheated again. Wake up and be serious with your remarks. What happened to poor Teoh? Still investigating ah?
Anyone who knows internal control will tell you that there is NO such thing as ” foolproof ” controls. Seriously I have never seen ” foolproof ” internal control in all my working life.
Anyway, what happened to the General and Defence Minister in charged? Why are they not sacked?
Also, I do not think the engine of an old fighter jet cost RM50 million. These jets are developed in 1960s and went through upgrades over time. RM50mil for an engine, it’s probably more expensive than the jet itself.
To those fellows in a state of denial, “foolproof” simply means having spent millions of taxpayers monies in procuring a system, be it Management Information System, Security System, Monitoring System, Risk Management System, Logistics System or whatever systems there are on earth. That’s all, nothing more than that!
Remember, in the latest Auditor-General Report, a state-of-the-art sophisticatedly high technology access system that costs millions, got defeated by just one rubber slipper!!!
If there is really any foolproof system here in Malaysia, the only one that i can think of is Foolproof Corruption System where the guilty ones walk free even if proven to be so.
Other wise how to make more money without the new ones ?
The real culprit is protected because he knows who took the C4 !
Aiyooo…. it’s not 1 engine lah, but 2.
It’s now RM100 million !

Extract from Malaysiakini.
‘Meanwhile, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said the latest fiasco is an incredible way for the country to ‘jet-set’ into the new year.
“What a way to end 2009 – the two missing jet engines which exposes high-level thievery, government topsy-turvydom and sheer lack of professionalism in defence, police and attorney-general’s chambers cast a long shadow on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s GTP (Government Transformation Programme),” he added in a statement.’
How come the engine morphed from 1 to 2 ?
Soon it may be 3.
50 million for an engine? Looks like somebody already pocketed some money from its purchase in the first place.
Yeah! Ketuanan Lanun Abad 21.
Hey!. This is Malaysia Boleh. Anything can be done.
Aiyah! IN 1 Malaysia, anything can what!. What’s the problem with stealing jet engines? Maybe next time, they will steal The Twin Towers??? Malaysia bOleh!!
The defence minister quite honestly put the cost of the engines when new at 50million each. So how much would it have cost?
