5 times more riot cops than criminal investigators? Total police mismanagement

Firstly, congratulations to Dr. Syed Husin Ali! I’ve had the honour of working with him on a number of occassions, and am delighted that a man of such integrity and caliber is being elected to our Senate.

Secondly, I may be doing some maintenance on this blog later tonight, so please forgive any interruptions you may experience.

Now, like everyone else, I was incensed at Hishamuddin’s utterly idiotic statement that crime is on the rise because we demonise the cops.

I think the degree to which this defies logic and makes no rational sense whatsoever a) shows us once again who exactly is running our country (I mean, I know you have to suck up to the cops, but not to the point of assuming anyone would actually swallow such bullshitla), b) exempts me from ranting too long about it.

Let’s look instead for the real reason crime is on the rise in some good figures YB Tony has produced:

From the above chart, what stands out is the fact that only 7.65% of the police force is specifically dedicated fighting crime, while 33.1% of the force is dedicated to “internal security”, that is the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), the Light Strike Force, and a “Pasukan Gerakan Am”, which was originally intended to fight the Communists in the jungle! It is almost as if the country is in a state of emergency to the extent that more than 40,000 police officers are tasked to “internal security”.

(If I’m not mistaken, we are technically indeed in a state of emergency still)

Wahhhhh. So almost five times the amount of personnel assigned to investigating crime in Malaysia are assigned to fighting ‘riots’ and… communists? >:|

This is infuriating. Nevermind that we also need almost five times that same amount to manage cops (a figure which apparently does not include ‘logistics’ – a department which also has more cops assigned to it than criminal investigations).

We are a country of some 27 million people. We have only 9,379 cops investigating crime, and almost as many (short only by 249) cops in the Special Branch.

To quote Jubal Early (I recently read this with interest) – Does that seem right to you?

  1. Perfect plan by perfect clowns. Invading communist china is the ultimate goal. Imagine when china is conquered and renamed 1MaChin. Very cool what. lol

  2. Sir.
Allocation of personnel is dependent on current needs and priorities.Obviously, given Hishamuddin,s agenda, control of the rakyat is uppermost in his mind while arrest and conviction of real criminals is a merely an afterthought.
I am reminded of the detention of the Perlis Mufti at a house party that required the attention of,reportedly, over forty arresting officers-of candle lit vigils that attract the professionalism of numerous SB officers-of the police attendance at the Perak state assembly and the brutallity shown to the legitimate speaker.
Hishamuddin,s agenda is dictated by his BN/UMNO bosses who are determined to hold onto power by any means fair or foul. The rakyat must be divided and controlled for UMNO realise that if they, the rakyat, become united under one flag then their days as the ruling elite are over and subsequent investigations into their previous crimes may see them, and their cronnies, imprisoned.
In their eyes the real criminals are those that dont toe the BN/UMNO line…their arrogance and fear has blinded them to what is right and what is wrong…preservation of the staus quo will see more and more resources dedicated to this end.

  3. Wow!!

So many Managers on the Police payroll. What they manage, ah?? I thot we should have 80% of them doing policing (cats catching mouse), but looks like it’s the other way round! No wonder robbers, rapists, snatch-thieves all gets away! Shit man!!

May we propose to the Home Minister to re-shuffle?? We should have only 20% support team, all others should be on their feet catching thieves! OK, we leave 15% for internal Security (FRU/SWAT), the rest 65% must be on patrol. Afterall, our IGP very tech-savvy, bought a lot of software/computers etc alreadi mah, no need to have so many manizers around, police already key in everything online.

  4. I’m just trying to figure this out… if ‘management’ here is equivalent to the corporate sector, then all manager levels and above should fall into this category.
So now, total is about 122k personnel, management itself consists of around 46k. This means, on average, there is 1 manager for every 2.65 personnel.

  5. Hi Nat

In the upcoming Malaysian budget, more funds will go to the PDRM. What percentage of these funds will go to
    “Management” and “Internal Security”?

  6. No wonder selalu cakap tak cukup polis la. Like this hire another 50,000 polis pun tak cukup. Management level pun 37%, this is absurd. Total brainless allocation of resources.

  7. To add a bit. That means Polis needs 4 fella polis to manage 6 other fellas polis. Out of 6 fella polis being managed, 3 will only do work once a while when UMNO calls them to fire tear gas and beat up people. Out the 3 full time polis fella, 1 will drive, maintain and service motor vehicles and related logistic work.

That also means out of every 10 polis, only 2 will do actual work to combat crimes. We should be thankful that crime rate is not higher. If I were the gangster boss, this is good news.

  8. In the Land of Monkeys, Monkeys on Management are still Monkeys, and it aint gonna be Babboon, eventhough Monkeys and Babboons may look alike.

Dont the Cousins lookalike Monkeys and Babboons?

  9. Nat,

Why did you bother to come back here? Heard you over the radio, you’re a sensible person.

Well, I made the same mistake.

  10. Its a good point Nathan but the question still remains, How are we going to rectify these shortcomings? Certainly not by venting and posting our frustration, since it does not reach where it was intended.
We are just pondering, what to do ……..?????

  11. Actually, Internal Security = Special Branch.

They are a separate police force with their own organization structure and their job is to open files and monitor citizens, like yourself as a political blogger, other bloggers, opposition politicians, activists, exco members of NGOs, academics, clerics, journalists, etc. Talk to any Special Branch officer and you will find his or her knowledge of criminals is ZERO. They are secret police.

  12. Hello:

Much as I admire Syed Husin I must point out that in Malaysia, no one, including Syed Husin, is elected into the Senate.

  13. Hi NAT.,

I sincerely think everybody is making too much of an issue out of this episode.

    My reasons are as followed:

    1) When the CRIME RATE went up, everybody make noise that the PDRM is NOT doing enough. However, when the PDRM put words into action by GUNNING DOWN 5 well deserved DEAD criminals, everybody are saying that the PDRM is cruel. It ain’t a easy thing to be a Police in Malaysia, don’t you think so???

    2) Some commented that the Police should have SHOT the hands/legs of the 5 well deserved DEAD criminals instead of killing them. “What the FUCK???”. If the Police are that precise in their target shooting, they wouldn’t be a Policeman in the 1st place. They perhaps would have by now excelled as a HITMAN or a World Olympic CHAMPION in rifle/pistol shooting. Makes sense???

    3) Talking is easy but doing it is difficult. Try giving a gun to those who condemned the shooting & I dare bet my last penny that these FOOLS will end-up shooting themselves. These FOOLS are a NAIVE lot who think target shooting is as easy as A,B,C.

    4) The woman who DIED due to weed-killer poisoning should be the one to blame!!! What a DUMB BITCH she is. It’s 100% FAIR if she insist to take her own useless life away but for her to get her children involved by drinking weed-killer too is TOTALLY ABSURD!!! What’s the point of roping in INNOCENT CHILDREN’s LIFE over a stupid case of 5 criminals getting killed. These 5 criminals SHOULDN’T have existed on earth in the 1st place!!!

Upon reading & analyzing the above, I believe most will AGREE to what I’ve stated. It’s a SAD thing for someone to DIE but if those deceased is worth DYING, then, we should REJOICE instead of being SAD, FRUSTRATED or even ANGRY.

    Yours sincerely,
    PJU Voter
