I feel it’s been a slightly slow news day, so just a few words on the first Malay-majority DAP branch in Selangor under Teresa Kok’s Puchong constituency.
Predictably, I see this as a wonderful thing. Cross fertilisation is ever so important, and I think steps like this will go a ways in alleviating some of the problems Ong Kian Ming pointed out quite articulately some time back.
I think this is a reminder of a perspective I have been repeating often of late: I think that swing voters – Malaysians who have voted for both sides before, and change their minds often – do not currently see Malaysia in terms of component parties, but as home to a two-party system.
I think this is healthy, and that the more Pakatan parties take steps closer together (keep an eye out for the big Pakatan convention in December), the better.
It’s nice to see Tok Guru and surprisingly even Hassan Ali welcome the development :) It’s such a waste to overly compete among ourselves; Malaysia needs us to focus our attention on more pressing problems.
