Arrests for Kg Buah Pala / Bkt Koman cheated by Dept of Environment?

Firstly, deep wishes to Yasmin Ahmad for a speedy recovery.

On Kg Buah Pala, I’ll not really go into the politics, etc.

It really saddens me though, that 10 people were arrested during a peaceful march involving a land problem in a Pakatan held state.

It doesn’t matter to me that MIC was involved, and I know that the state authorities don’t control the police.

But I’ve had so many friends taken in this way, and it’s truly depressing that the matter has not been resolved yet and now has to come to this. Efforts to finalise the matter satisfactorily must be redoubled.

The latest from Bukit Koman:

In the press statement the villagers also complained that Department of Environment (DOE) had taken away equipment that monitored chemicals levels in early July six days after installation.

As a result , the committee claimed, the very next day the villagers were “once again exposed to noxious fumes”.

On Tuesday, the residents had met with Pahang State EXCO for Local Government, Environment and Health, representatives of various state agencies and representatives of the mining company.

They claim that” at that meeting no one could explain why the monitoring equipment was left in the village for only six days, and why there are emissions which negatively affect the residents, or what these emissions are”.

>:| Half-hearted measures before selling out to corporate interests? Grrr.

DOE and factory safety department(sic) are very powerful in Mlaysia. Ask those people who runs the factory in usually ulu places.

    Hi Nat

Some people within the ruling regime don’t seem to realize that the Frankenstein Monster “repressive state apparatus” they helped to create or studiously ignore can also be used against THEM in factional fights (such as factional fights within UMNO).

The growth of the police state is a threat to everyone!

  • Depends on who is marching, when UMNO Ampang Division protested recently, no arrest or harasment
