Snap General Elections? Survey results may tempt Najib

The most recent Merdeka survey has made me feel… challenged to say the least :P :)

But yes, if I were Pakatan, I think I should be looking quite keenly at the possibility of snap elections. Should Manek Urai go south (it probably won’t, but I think everyone will be watching the majority), I’d sound the call for battle stations, red alert.

I mean look at the steady string of announcements: 1Malaysia, economic “liberalisation,” scholarships, language switch. Clearly, Najib has a plan. I would venture to say he even holds the initiative at this point.

With the approval ratings that we’ve seen, and the sentiment on the Malay ground, I think a simple majority is certainly within reach for BN, as long as there is no sea change in East Malaysia.

Making similar extrapolations, they may not take the Chinese majority seats, but those remain barely a handful.

Well, I should remember to stay clear of the soothsayer business.

To Pakatan though, I think the warning signs are plenty there to be on high alert (as a political party should be at all times anyway). If there are to be fresh elections, a much, much cleaner and higher calibre of candidates will be vital to holding the day.

And those candidates would have to start work right away.

In the meantime, I reiterate again, one of the only ways for Pakatan to distinguish themselves is to truly focus – to a degree hereto yet unachieved – on excellence in governing the states that they run.

Resting on laurels is a recipie for disaster.

  • Certainly not this year, but very possible in 2010.

    Well,
I think Nathaniel’s concern is correct. However, judging from the 12th GE where PAS controls the state assemblies & PKR controls the parliaments…..Candidate wise….I believe there shall be more balanced candidatures among these Pakatan component parties
Sincerely, DAP has been short changed. That’s a fact! It’s time DAP shall be treated as equal partners in NS, Malacca & Johore. Slightly dominant in Perak. Ask that Dominique folk to hand off Sarawak
It’s time DAP should be given a fair share especially the state seats. 25…..A good figure….It’s easier for DAP to win more seats. Ho Leng’s team still far stable…….What say you Nathaniel

Sounds like LKS. He copy you or you copy him? Hmm. Either way, you can be MP. Salute!
