Choong Soy Soy dies after “slipping and falling” in police detention; Gov’t pays Fox Communications RM 200,000 to ‘fix image’ of cops

The Star:

IPOH: Police maintain there was no foul play behind the death of drug suspect Choong Soy Soy at the Bercham police station lockup on June 27.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Azisman Alias said his investigation officers have recorded statements from the inmates saying that Choong had indeed slipped and fallen in the toilet between 9am and 10am that day.

ACP Azisman said the inmates heard a loud noise and found Choong on the floor.

“The suspect was still conscious and was able to talk when we found him after the accident,” ACP Azisman said on Wednesday.

“He also declined to go to the hospital and said he was alright,” he said.

Choong was sent to the hospital after policemen noticed that he was bleeding from the nose, said ACP Azisman.

Choong fell into a coma two days after being admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital where he died on Tuesday morning, he said.

ACP Azisman said the case was investigated as sudden death and a post-mortem report would be submitted by the hospital to the police soon.

Slipped and fell in the toilet.

Statements taken from other inmates. Who probably witnessed what really happened to Choong.

Slipped and fell………….

>:(

This is getting to be a trend. Let’s see how the government responds.

Kerishamuddin via Lulu:

THE appointment of Fox Com-munications as the Royal Police Force (PDRM) public relations consultant was through ‘open quotation’, said the Home Ministry.

Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, in his written reply to Wee Choo Keong (PKR – Wangsa Maju), said the appointment was for six months with a monthly fee of RM33,250.

On the rationale of acquiring the consultant service, Hisham-muddin said public relations between the force and public had to be developed in a more comprehensive and synergised manner.

“It is very critical to fix the negative perception from the people and baseless criticism from the media against the force,” he said.

Wow. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a while. And as you can probably imagine, I hear a lot of stupid things.

So. PRDM.. I’m sorry, PDRM – with all these deaths in detention amongst other things – has an image problem. What do we do?

Hire PR consultants to fix it :| For RM 200,000 :|

The bad image of the police does not arise from PR ignorance or lousy media relations.

It arises from the section of the force that is corrupt, abuse their powers, cause and allow death in custody, fail to provide public safety, make fun of crime victims who show up to report crimes, and so on. Fix that, then – and only then – do you fix the image problem.

To me, this epitomises the BN mindset. When they find shit (please pardon my French) on their hands, they completely ignore the option of cleaning the shit up.

Instead, they throw hundreds of thousands of ringgit at cronies (I think we all know the ex-NSTP connections of Fox Communications) to try and persuade the world that what is on their hands is not in fact shit, but roses.

Shit, my friends, cannot pass for roses.

So, what will we have at the end of this Musa/ng-led PR exercise?

Shit will still be shit, no one will believe it to be roses, the rakyat will be out RM  200,000 and some BN cronies will be RM 200,000  richer.

Ah, business as usual in BN bolehland.

The government should keep that money and get more patrol cars, hire more personnel, and invest in ways to make sure that cops don’t take bribes, or beat up helpless prisoners. *That* will go some way into turning shit into roses, not throwing money at Fox bleeding Communications.

PR consultants indeed. For my money, I think you should get the other PR (Pakatan) to run the show instead :P

  1. remarkable….how could someone slipped, fell and died?

those rm 200 000 better give to me…no need bother with the irreparable image…

if they can really go back to the basics of being a policemen, there is no need for any PR stunt…the people will love and respect them…

  2. Curiouser and curiouser. That’s Bolehland under 1Najib & his Umno/BN Gang. Now all would be well within Pakatan Rakyat… if the component parties could just agree to disagree about the merits and/or demerits of dogs, pigs and!

  3. NST, or ex-NST journalists will sell their mothers and fathers at the right price. And they have the temerity to call themselves journalists. Shame on you, NST bastards.

  4. Jeez, don’t you bloggers read your own blogs? Grey or dark text on a black background is a real pain to your eyes! Use dark text on light background or light text on dark backgrounds.

  5. Nat,

As a known overnight guest at a police station sometime in your life, can you confirm that the floors in the toilets there can be very slippery ? Do you think the RM200k will be better spent improving safety in police station toilets throughout the country?

nat: well, they are disgusting. i’ll confess the one i had to use was wet, but i wouldn’t believe that someone would slip, hit his head so hard, and refuse hospital treatment :P and i think your suggestion is perfect – the least they can do is fix the damn toilets!

  6. Google the saying on trying to put lipstick on a pig

  7. To Amethyst213, I have not seen someone who slip, fell and die in real life. I have only seen it in HK TVB drama.

  8. And that’s how screwed up our education system was previously………….!!!

And you all think it can be done any better for our country in this “department” ……………?????

Instead of wasting public funds (Rm200000)…, he can just give “standing” orders to all police force to follow strictly on the “police code of ethics”.
    No hanky panky…..!!!!

By hiring Fox Comm. isn’t it a “BIG slap” to our IGP…..???
    Why………..?????
Coz it goes to show he’s not doing his job & he cannot control his “staff”…….!!!
Being of the highest command, he also needs to go for image change…….??????????
    IGP image that terrible too……………..??

    Wow………!!!

  9. Died due to fell and slipped?? Is the toilet located too high from the floor???

Now we had lost…RM200,000.00 for nothing..

  10. The tamaK-tamaK will make sure those they do not like to slip and fall again and again and again………………………………………….
    until death!

  11. They must have well greased, slippery floors in the toilets of all detention centres so selected detainess slip (‘accidentally’ on purpose!) after the torture.
The BO from some in the Police Force is so revolting, they spray on cheap aftershave to mask the stink, and more often than not ,even tear gas and chemical laced concoctions to keep peaceful protesters at bay.
The PR exercise will do nothing for a force that has rotted to the core. The selection of well trained, highly principled officers may help, provided that they themselves are not ultimately harassed for being good men on the job!

  12. Actually, my dad slip and fell in the toilet, and got into a stroke after he hit his head.. doc said he’s lucky because he got into the hospital early, or else the clot would’ve killed him.

  13. The consultant will most probably dig a hole to let the ostrich (Kerishamuddin and PRDM) put its head in.

They should in fact use the money the BN way – give RM1,000 each to 200 Malaysians on the street. At least that has a chance of getting (“buying”) a few of the 200 votes.

Again, let me repeat: no matter what the actual cause to those deaths, whenever a person is detained by the police, that person’s life is the responsibility of the police. Just like we do not have any right to take away our own life by law, nor can the police take away the detainees’ life too.

  14. Wtf does Kerismudin mean by ‘open quotation’?

Open tender, we know. But open quotation, does it mean others were asked to quote? I don’t thonk so. This was direct negotiations with 1 pary, and that’s it.

This is the kond of language Fox PR has taught our Ministers and Police – doublespeak where you can’t figure out what they really mean!

  15. You know the cops have given us too much headache all the while and we have tolerated them for so long. The BN Government even paid a heavy price for the crimes committed by the cops. The cops always have an instant explanation for every wrong things that they commit except to admit, change and repent. They had resisted every attempt to discipline them and they had done everything possible to preserve their powers and even enhance it. When the government set up IPCMC they exploited the avenue to seek a pay rise so much so they actually got multiple increments in recent years. When you talk to the Cops they always potray a strict image but they are absolutely inefficient and does not have the required brains to carry out their duties so much so the crime rate has shot up. What’s the point in being STRICT when you are completely INCOMPETENT. I always hear them giving press statement about their big ‘CATCH’ but after that nobody gets charged. They are a bunch of jokers and now they need PR makeover.

  16. Comrades. Paying almost a quarter million to boost the image? Goli hati den. Joke of the day.PPSMC has identified the failures within the organisation. Put all that right and your image will be restored. Can the consultant put all the bad things that is happening in the organisation right? If they can’t then bet for sure we have lost our hard earned money. These people can give any amount of money for all I care because we can’t stop them as long as they’re in power. They can take all the commissions but please give the best to the country. They swindle all the money and at the same time we were short-change in terms of quality of items we purchase be it weapons, services and personnels. Have ever thought that when we eventually takeover and PR formed the federal Government and that this government is going to be paralysed for quite a long period because of the corrupted Government servants, corrupted organisations, corrupted members of judiciary etc, etc. Think of the possibilities and get ready with a harsh solution without fear or favour.

  17. goverment pls give an reponds about what is happening right now??dont just keep quiet and let all of this things happen with any person again.check it out and give public a explanation.PDRM is a body that take care of public.not to harm public as u like.the toilet ghost sure will come back and haunt all the people that didnt clear the toilet probaly.
