KL Tower’s ridiculous price hike

Call it petty, but I couldn’t help writing about the shock I got when I brought a visiting friend to KL Tower last week. The prices seem to have quadrupled!

A visit to the observation deck used to be RM 10 for Malaysians, RM 20 for tourists. It’s now a flat RM 38 for everyone!

I realise I’m writing about this a little late, as I think the prices have been in effect for half a year, but still.

Perhaps they made some major renovations or something to justify the price hike? Not even close. The only addition, is that a free pony ride was included :|

Dinner up there now costs something like RM 155.

What a crying shame. I think these hikes are a little extreme, no?

What’s worse, I’d been out of town myself, and less aware of the haze situation. I got my second unpleasant shock when I reached the top and got only about 15% visibility :P

I used to quite like the place, alas. I remember my last meal up there, about a year and a few weeks ago exactly.

Bring the prices back down!

  • Plus, there seems to be a shortage of car-park spaces. The food isn’t quite up to par either.

nat: yeah, i used to bite the bullet because the view was nice, but at RM 155, i think they can take their bullet and you know what :P

THe place is so run down, I wouldn’t even want to go there for free. The prices are so ridiculous, just like everything from BN!

RTM and probably telekom pay hefty monthly rentals to owners of KL tower for the use of their facilities.
Of course, KL tower was deemed useless the moment twin towers was completed, hence some areas covered by twin towers did not get TV/ phone signals.

There is no other city in the world where a newly built telecommunication tower is less tall than a sky scraper.. Once a telecommunication tower is built, city guidelines will prohibit the building of taller structures in order to allow signals to cover the entire city.

Plus, telecommunication towers are built mostly cities built on flat plains. If there are hills, it is cheaper to build a lower tower on top of hills to propagate signals.

In KL’s case, we had hills, but a tower was built anyway, and a taller sky scraper was built later on, despite all these.

Did you also notice they charge an admission fee for a ‘Winter Wonderland’ whose snowman and other structures are made of polystyrene and cotton. Why is KL Tower trying to promote fake snow when we are in the middle of the tropics! Their priorities have gone all wrong.

  • Wow…those are ridiculous prices indeed. Not worth the visit at all for me.

  • yes…really ridiculous , price for adult is rm38…what is there or complementary ???

How can i encourage my oversea friend to come for just viewing the site with rm38??? it will be better to go genting highlight or other nature place..
