Hullo from Ipoh!

We were at a rest stop half way when I got news of the Brickfields arrests.

All news of such arrests bother and agitate me greatly.

Tonight’s particular incident made me think that the police have finally lost it and decided to wage war on peace.

I was happy when it was finally learned that all were released. They who should never have been touched in the first place.

Anyway, won’t write long. I’m eager to sleep. From the rumblings here, it is unlikely to be a pretty day tomorrow.

Well, whatever the odds, we’re here to stage whatever defense of democracy we can in Perak.

See you on the other side!

Those sneaky cops are out for blood, it would appear.

Dissatisfied with the original order from the magistrate granting only a one day remand, they snuck Chin Huat back to court, and got it extended to another three days.

If you think this – along with the arrest of Mat Sabu et al – is bullshit, like I do, show up for his vigil tonight at 9pm, Brickfields police station.

(I may be on my way to Ipoh already due to commitments).

Grrr!!

Update: Got ADILsms saying CheguBard taken in at Putrajaya, presumably over his Altantuya cake.

See Harakah, Penarik Beca (another former guest of the CCID), et al.

Ah. What a sweet honeymoon it was, in those early days when Najib sang such sugar coated songs designed to charm our hearts, especially the non-Malay demographic.

Even I wasn’t prepared to reject his overtures out of hand.

The jury is back though, and I think the verdict is clear.

Najib will learn like so many others before him, that when deed fails to match word – cakap tak serupa bikin – leaders get replaced.

Maybe this is why they clever to talk about review ISA (like anyone believesla, though), who needs ISA when got Sedition Act, OSA, etc etc.

Speaking of which, Chin Huat’s detention at the Commercial Crimes Dept might suggest the possibility that he was detained for something that he wrote online. We will see where Mat Sabu will be brought, and whether that will yield any clues to the angle the cops are trying to take.

Mat Sabu, kami diri sama hang.

Been away from comp until now.

So, I’m glad Chin Huat only got one day remand (though it should have been -1! ). He’s a brave guy, and I think he’ll tahan one more night (or better yet, be released today!

I hope the 3 arrested for trying to send a birthday cake to commemorate Altantuya’s birthday, which is today (happy birthday, wherever you are!) are also released today.

Here’s my favourite part from that incident.

The square cake, weighing about 2kg, was squashed by the police when it was being confiscated. According to the police, the cake was seized for ‘security reasons’.

Security.

Reasons.

O_O

Now that, is almost as ridiculous as nominating racist, Mr. Raba-Raba (borrowing from Aisehman) Jamaludin Jarjis as Ambassador to America.

What’s he gonna do? Go up to Obama and say ‘Whazzup n*gger?’ Geez.

Ah crap. As I’m writing this, news is coming out that Mat Sabu is arrested. Next post coming up.

I arrived at Bukit Perdana just before 10. There had been people there probably from 8.30 or 9, waiting to see Chin Huat.

As our patience wore on, a team of lawyers started getting more insistent on entering the building to give Chin Huat a chance to exercise his right to legal counsel.

Bar Council President Ragunath was present and leading much of the charge, intimating at one point that his office gave him access to the King, but he couldn’t seem to get through to some deadbeat police officer who was too cowardly to come down and face the crowd (instead sending down a sergeant who I had the pleasure of meeting during my time in the same building, who found himself arguing with a very tough crowd).

Datuk Ambiga, Sivarasa and Latheefa were all also there banging the table, so to speak. A number of DAP YB’s as well as PAS’ Dr. Dzulkifli were on hand at some point or another.

They forced the cops into a stalemate, as we refused to move out, and they refused to let the lawyers see Chin Huat.

Eventually, while we gave them the benefit of a little more time (after waiting more than 4 hrs), a car suddenly sped out of the compound, and some of us spotted Chin Huat in cuffs, bravely waving to us before the care was rushed out of sight.

:(

Presumably he is spending the night in some godforsaken lockup. The cops were too devious to let us know which one, but hopefully we will pick up on this the next time.

It is also presumed that he will be taken to court tomorrow to be either charged, or (more likely) brought to face a remand hearing.

I suspect the cops will once again purposely not inform Chin Huat’s lawyers of his remand hearing, which will leave the team scrambling around town trying to find out when and where the hearing will be held.

If they touch one hair of his head, or deny him even an iota of his full legal rights under the law, I think we can safely bury Najib’s already dying political credibility.

To imagine, all this because of they *know* they’ve acted against the people in Perak. As a result, one Ipoh boy born and bred, has been jailed for his struggle to return democracy to his home.

It now falls to you and me to keep the flames of indignation against injustice burning bright.

Make Chin Huat proud, make his sacrifice not in vain, make sure we turn Malaysia black this Thursday.

Ok, from info I have so far, Chin Huat has been taken to the Commercial Crimes Dept, in Bkt Perdana, behind Bank Negara.

I’m leaving soon to head on over there, come by if you can in solidarity.

Word has it that it’s a sedition charge, probably related to 1BlackMalaysia. His location, if accurate, suggests that it may have been something written online as well.

Chin Huat is a really great guy. A little excitable, but about as far as seditious as one can be (if only the same could be said of say, Ahmad Said).

This arrest is probably about Perak.

Can you smell their fear? See it in their eyes?

And Mr. “review ISA” Najib. Mr. 1Malaysia. It looks like we don’t even have to wait a goddamned month to see your true colours eh?

I’ll try to get someone to update jelas while I’m away if possible.

Looks like it’s on.

Every gathering that has taken place without being attacked by the police has proceeded peacefully and without incident. Let’s hope the police have the good sense to see this and act accordingly on Thurs.

If all goes well, see you there!

Sorry, been a little out of it of late, esp on the blogging front. A bit in a rut.

So, today:

Umno’s stand on the upcoming Penanti by-election continues to remain a mystery with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin also refusing to shed any light.

Firstly, he said the party’s political bureau which met this afternoon did not discuss the matter contrary to reports earlier that Penanti will be the top agenda.

“We did not discuss about that and there’s no decision made,” he said. And when asked what was discussed, he replied: “Why should we tell you?”

When pressed by journalists on whether the party will contest, the deputy premier merely shook his head without elaborating on whether it meant ‘no comments’ or ‘no contest’

O_o

Far be it from us to throw the first stone, but this shows a bit more disunity within Umno than I would’ve expected so soon into Najib’s premiership.

Whatever his stance, if Najib was really strong, he should be able to steamroll his decision through. Time is a tickin’ y’know, nomination ain’t that far off. How is he going to avoid being seen as TDM’s whipping boy at this rate?

As for Muhyiddin, all this snappy “Err.. Uh… Why should we tell you?” defensive, undiplomatic nonsense suggests disarray from no less than the country’s Number 2 is not exactly confidence inspiring.

And did not discuss it? That means either they’re daft (to ignore such a thing), whipped (for not daring to bring it up) or they’re lying.

May we appreciate each and every soul toiling to make a living.
