Well, my friends, it appears to be a done deal. Congratulations to all you Najib lovers out there :P :)

As for the rest of us, onwards and upwards, we’ve got big battles this weekend – lawan tetap lawan!

Mr. new pm, see you April 7th, and see you GE13!

I suppose most think it is too late, and perhaps it is.

And yet, at the time of writing, there does not seem to be an official, confidence inspiring statement about a swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

Thus, I have composed the following, borrowing the opening and ending language from a similar Pakatan letter. It is not my best piece of writing, but time runs short.

And if it amounts to naught, like my last letter to royalty, then so be it. But with so much at stake I shall refuse not to try whatever is within my feeble ability, and continue to live in hope that we may be spared the disaster of a Najib premiership.

Mengadap Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong

Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud al-Muktafi Billah Shah

Ampun Tuanku,

We beg Tuanku to take the following matters into consideration as Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak seeks to become Prime Minister.

In the weeks leading to his ascension to power, the government has demonstrated ever increasing repressive measures to silence all voices of legal, patriotic dissent.

The police have used tear gas and water cannons to attack peaceful citizens whose only crime was to gather and listen to alternative political views.

Newspapers have been shut down, and threats against online media have been made repeatedly. A fear exists that this clampdown will only worsen should Dato’ Seri Najib become Prime Minister.

Ampun Tuanku,

As Dato’ Seri Najib prepares to assume power, we see more and more proof of corruption in the ranks of the government he plans to lead.

His party has allowed the Chief Minister of Malacca to continue ruling the state even after being found guilty of money politics. This worrying trend suggests a return to the days where high officials can spent millions of ringgit belonging to the people on Disneyland trips.

Even as the rakyat struggles with an ever worsening economic crisis, Dato’ Seri Najib himself has yet to explain why excessive amounts of money was spent on arms purchases involving multi-million commissions to those closely associated with himself. His hand has also been seen in the federal government’s move to buy back Selangor’s privatised water concessions at vastly overpriced values, and plan to increase water tariffs to increase private profits at the expense of the rakyat.

A fear exists that this trend of corruption will only worsen should Dato’ Seri Najib become Prime Minister.

Ampun Tuanku,

The already tarnished integrity of the judiciary has been worsening in these weeks leading to Dato’ Seri Najib’s planned ascension. To date, even such glaring cases of corruption such as the VK Lingam scandal have yet to be properly prosecuted.

In the recent Perak constitutional crisis, involving alleged threats and inducements which Dato’ Seri Najib himself is perceived to have played a pivotal role, judges have now been replaced with parachute candidates who have already begun ruling in favour of Dato’ Seri Najib’s political allies.

Similar tampering with the judiciary and switching of judicial personnel was also observed in the Altantuya Shaarriibuu murder case, which the whole world now perceives Dato’ Seri Najib to be involved in. His refusal to account for how his personal bodyguards participated in a murder for which they had no plausible motive continues to be a glowering blemish on his personal integrity as Prime Minister aspirant.

Ampun Tuanku,

The public fails to believe that Dato’ Seri Najib is the man to lead a nation dealing with economic crises, corruption scandals at every level, and severe abuses of power by law enforcement agencies and personnel.

Malaysia needs a leader with a cleaner record of integrity, a leader free from the taint of any ill perception, to lead a united Malaysia in these dark times.

We pray Tuanku will choose such another individual to lead us until such a time as Dato’ Seri Najib may clear his name and demonstrate a more confidence inspiring aptitude. A nation surrounded by despair looks to Tuanku in hope.

Ampun Tuanku,

Amin Ya Rabbal ‘Alamin

Ampun Tuanku

Patik dengan segala hormat takzimnya,
Nathaniel Tan

Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud al-Muktafi Billah Shah

Update: So Najib also came and went, and?….. “smiled and waved to reporters.” Also, “It’s a matter for Tuanku,” Bernama reported Abdullah as saying. Vague, vague, vague… Aaargh!

Aaargh! The suspense!

Abdullah left the palace this morning without speaking to the press.

What does that mean??

No idea.

The mainstream press, on the other hand, still seems to be working overtime in insisting that Najib will be sworn in tomorrow.

We remain hopeful that DYMM YDP Agong remains above such manipulations and upholds the finest traditions of a compassionate and learned monarch.

Hopefully, we will be saved from rule by repression.

Meanwhile, this strange controversy surrounding the Chief Secretary remains. Observe this (now un-retracted?) piece in Bernama:

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin has given his consent for Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be sworn in as prime minister at 10am on Friday, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said.

In a statement issued here Wednesday night, he said Tuanku Mizan had also consented to grant an audience to Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib at 10am tomorrow for Abdullah to relinquish the post and seek consent to appoint Najib as the new prime minister.

Tuanku Mizan gave his consent at an audience with Abdullah before the cabinet meeting this morning.

The King had given his consent for Najib to be presented his letter of appointment as prime minister and to take his oath of office, loyalty and confidentiality at Istana Negara at 10am on Friday, the statement said.

?! Did Abdullah really have an audience with Tuanku before the Cabinet meeting yesterday?

If this turns out in any way to be a fabrication, that should be the end of Sidek Hassan’s career.

Malaysiakini:

Chief secretary to the government Mohd Sidek Hassan said that the king has consented to the swearing-in of Najib, which will be held in Istana Negara at 10am.

:(

But wait! Rocky:

Then, a few minutes ago, the national news agency sent this bulletin to all its subscribers:

[NEWS] NOTE TO EDITORS: APRIL 1
Please ignore item slugged “Agong-Najib” as the office of the Chief Secretary of the Government has said that it had issued the statement prematurely.– BERNAMA

A ray of hope shines through the skies!

Could it be that Najib and his unholy gang have been trying to pre-empt the DYMM Agong, and make arrangements presumptively in an attempt to corner the Agong?

As I was driving home tonight, thinking about the bleakness that lies ahead – the misfortune dawn might bring.. I started to wonder whether I could have done more to try and keep it from happening.

It’s quite an effective strategy on BN’s part to try and engineer this transition while many of us are so focused on the by-elections.

In truth, what happens over the next two days is of supreme importance. Almost everything hangs in the balance.

The angle I felt that maybe we should have played up more is the wave of repressions that might follow Najib’s ascension.

Already his police are firing tear gas and water cannons at us; already they are trying to control what we can and can’t say; already Najib has usurped democracy; already the integrity of the judiciary is reaching new lows; already they have clamped down on press freedom.

Waiting for what’s next is like waiting for the executioner’s axe to fall.

If there is any sign at all tomorrow, any glimmer of hope, I will try to write something longer. It is long overdue, and my fault for not really understanding the gravity before, forgive me.

May tomorrow bring better tidings; whatever comes, I hope we’ll all be ready to do our part.

Updated 5.30pm

Wow. It seems that shamelessness is a hallmark of the Najib era.

Not one, but two judges were parachuted suddenly, and with absolutely no reason given, to hear cases related to the Perak constitutional crisis. Malaysiakini:

Abdul Aziz is a High Court judge who was just transferred from Sarawak. Today was his first day at work in Kuala Lumpur.

Justice Balia Yusof Wahi is a High Court civil division judge who had been brought specifically from Kuala Lumpur to hear the case.

According to one of the lawyers representing Sivakumar, Edmund Bon, they were not informed of the change until the very last minute.

Bon also said that no reason was given for the change.

Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail was present for that case making his submission for the Election Commission.

And surprise, surprise. Justice Balia has basically already ruled for Najib. I will bet my bottom dollar that the other judgment will go in exactly the same way.

We talked so much of wanting to become a first world developed country. The media in any such country would have crucified the judiciary for such blatantly irregular practices – bringing hand picked judges to deliver hand picked judgments? Goodness.

I think in this way, there is nothing differentiating Najib and Mahathir. The former will likely try to buy every single judge until he controls the judiciary.

My fellow Malaysians, I hope you never have to appear in court under such a regime.

What was the name of that movie? Justice, my foot!!

Original post

Malaysiakini:

The suit by ousted Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin against BN’s Zambry Abd Kadir will be heard before a new judge tomorrow.

High Court judge Abdul Aziz Abd Rahim will be hearing the matter – starting with a leave application for the proper suit to follow – tomorrow afternoon at 2.30pm in Kuala Lumpur.

The matter was previously before justice Lau Bee Lan. No reasons have been given for the sudden transfer of the case, which was informed to the parties this morning.

How’s that for sketchy? >:(

Remind you of the constant swapping of judges and lawyers in the Altantuya (let me say it again, ALTANTUYA) murder trial?

Or perhaps the manner in which Anwar’s prosecutors fought tooth and nail just to get his trial out of Judge Komathy’s court? (incidentally hearing the lawyer’s human rights day march case)

One of the only interesting things google revealed on the new judge = a ruling by judge of that name made against PKR in Sarawak.

As for Lau Bee Lan, see Guan Sin’s previous take (also, I don’t think this is herlah :P )

How much money will Najib throw to keep his precious silver state? How many democratic principles will he burn?

Holy crap! I think I want to marry an Umno politician!! Malaysiakini:

Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and entourage spent almost RM1 million in an official trip to Morocco and France from Dec 17 to 24 in 2004.

The expenditure included a visit to the Paris Disneyland and a four-day transit stopover at Dubai.

This was revealed at the state’s Special Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) inquiry today.

Among the other revelations were:

  • Also present in the trip was Khir’s wife Zaharah Kechik, three children and a maid
  • The official delegation spent RM416,000 for the trip
  • A reconnaissance team which went ahead to make arrangements for the trip had spent RM366,000
  • The four-day stopover in Dubai had cost the state RM10,000

All the expenses were covered by state investment arm Perbadanan Nasional Selangor Berhad (PNSB).

These details were revealed by PNSB chief executive officer Khairiyah Abu Hassan at the inquiry today.

Last week, Khairiyah admitted of having a close relationship with Zaharah . She also added that there was no committee to scrutinise any “request” for funds or how the money was used. She said all requests were approved by the PNSB board collectively.

Wahhhhhhh!!!!! Nothing left to say!!!

Speaking of Zambry, I get this impression that he is really petty and pressured these days. Something about his tone of voice, and how he seems to go crazy over little things.

Rocky:

“Kalau saudara Nizar yakin dia menteri besar yang sah, kenapa di borang penamaan calonnya dia sebut pekerjaannya sebagai Adun Pasir Panjang? Tolong beritahu kita semua. Kenapa tak tulis pekerjaannya Menteri Besar Perak?” – Zambery Kadir, Menteri Besar Perak, berkata semalam di ceramah kat Bukit Gantang.

That’s it? That’s your claim to legitimacy over the people of Perak? What Nizar filled in his form? :|

Observer from some few days ago, via cheguBard quoting Nizar, when Nizar was praying at the same mosque as some Umno guys, and was asked to be the imam (the prayer leader) -

Sounds like an insecure guy to me… :)
