Wanted to draw attention to this video below.
The people of Raub obviously feel very strongly that Raub Australian Gold Mining (RAGM) is using cyanide as part of its mining process, and that it’s causing severe life-endangering environmental damage in Raub.
With nothing short of their lives at stake, I think we’re looking at yet another example of simple Malaysian citizens who are pushed into taking drastic action because they’ve been forced into a corner by authorities that probably care more about money than the lives of those who entrusted them to rule.
Minute 2.00 onwards has some especially great moments demonstrating how Malaysians don’t put up with crap lying down, even in the face of noxious police intimidation. The bravery shown by some of those old ladies (not to mention their brilliantly scathing comments :) gives us inspiration and hope that this country will not stand long for oppression.
I mention Ng Yen Yen because one of the residents specifically did in the video. She seems to be a million miles away, enjoying ministership while her constituents face cyanide.
I’m not that familiar with the whole case, although I did hear of it even way back. I’ll let the video do the talking:

Corrupt capitalism at the cost of Raub residents health.
Nat, we must launch awareness campaign to people in Raub to make their protest voice count. Malaysia institutions are not functioning, Jabatan Alam Sekitar sleeping? As far as I am concern, cyanide is carcinogenic. The mining company should find better mining way not harmful to residents.
What this video show is that the goment is still licking the posterior of foreign country and the law enforcement doing the same thing for their political master.
Sometime ago there was talk about she having a PR in Australia. I am not sure if she had surrendered that PR status after the controversy erupted..
I understand she has property in that country and I am sure when she is out of government, she will migrate, like many MCA leaders to Australia.
I used to be a certified cyanide process handler, ah, years ago. You actually needed to be trained, certified – on theory and practice, and also sit for annual recertification to be allowed to manage the damned chemicals. I wore something that looked like a space-suit when handling them. They are among the deadliest chemicals in the world.
I quit the job after a while- it wasn’t worth the risk, even with the very good pay for a young graduate.
Very few chemicals in the world are capable of dissolving gold – and cyanide is one of them, so its almost unavoidable in the gold extraction process.
Needless to say , it requires very stringent safety precautions, and very strong commitment from management to ensure the standards are maintained, as well as strong disaster response plans.
Anything man-made has the potential for a tragedy…
you think she cares? at worse, she just migrate to Australia.
when was the last time any MCA fella place the interest of the rakyat in front of their personal interest?
brilliant. thanks for sharing
In Jared Diamond’s “Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed” he describes the history of gold and copper mining in the US state of Montana. Although mining co.s were legally obligated to pay for clean-ups, what they actually did once the mine was finished was to create a new company, transfer all their money to that, let the original co. go bankrupt, and walk away scot-free. And this is in a DEVELOPED country that supposedly has environmental protection laws.
Wait….!
Only a few more years till the next election. Busy saving funds here & there first.
Than…, leave for Australia lah…!
You all think once got PR, wanna give it up so easy meh…..????
They know the next GE they will lose BIG time.
With all the ’shit’ that’s created by them goons & their big Boss..??
The rakyat can see, hear & understand now.
So…..
Of course, the Hell with the rakyat…………!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m leaving…. on a jet plane !
