Turbulence continues in Perak and Negeri Sembilan – Abdullah, Najib and the New Dawn

Update: Well, here’s some of the legal opinion requested below, AND a potential answer as well to the question of – just how big is Najib’s warchest?

Roller coaster ride continues!

Some developments:

It appears that the legality of undated, pre-signed letters of resignation are still in question – any legal opinions or precedents on the matter (I heard someone mention a past case in Sabah or something)?

More excitingly, some opine that there is a rift, or at the very least a lack of coordinated strategy between Najib and Abdullah in this whole issue.

I forgot to mention yesterday, that one major factor fuelling this chaos is the fact that Najib probably craves some sort of win very desperately, with his image crumbling after Kuala Terengganu, Bota and so on.

Perak would have been the gift on the (as it were) silver platter. Take over the state government, be the hero! He even moved to personally oversee the Perak BN/Umno leadership – just in time to take all credit for any such coup d’etat (oh how funny it would be if it backfired).

Amidst all this, perhaps Abdullah is less than happy to see Najib become a glorified hero (don’t forget how tenuous the position of Abdullah and his cronies will be should the Najib ascendancy be realised). Either that, or he wants a piece of the action and credit too.

Pakatan has been equal to the political game thus far. Submitting the letters of resignation at this stage may or may not have been a tad premature, and perhaps not entirely popular (depending on what the two have to say after this) but perhaps it was done as a sign to any other Pakatan reps who were entertaining funny ideas.

In any case, I think the stakes are high here. It’s early to say conclusively, but the potential is there that we might be looking at the final showdown. If Pakatan were to increase its majority in Perak, and strike successfully in Negeri, we’ll probably get our new dawn for Malaysia. Let’s watch close!

With BN, anything for the sake of power is possible. If they lose power to govern, all skeletons from the closet will be exposed.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

  • Some people said that the resignation letter is against the constitution like the anti hopping law.. but they forgot the differences which makes the resignation letter is not against the constitution…

Anti hopping law forbids Wakil rakyat to jump to another party… but, The resignation letter only makes them to lost their wakil rakyat status… but they still can jump to another party… Thus the ‘freedom to join organization” is still there for the “letter of resignation” case… You can hop to another party.. but left your jawatan to its owner, ie the rakyat….

Most people is a bit bitter at the BN vs Pakatan politiking, as they expect the nation to move on and face the financial crisis. I for one is also. But can we just put it aside and pretend that it’s OK and let UMNO be. I really would like the nation to have another go at elections e.g. have a fresh GE. I think this time we can have a clearer picture of who or what the rakyat wants. But is the rakyat or the political parties game for this. Well I might still have to wait.

Perakians will vote BN out into the straits of malacca.

    long live MB Nizar.

    long live PR….

  • I have a gut feeling that this optimistic prediction made by a medical astrologer in February 2008 will prove accurate and true! The signs are pretty clear, Najib is walking on crumbling ground. Each step he takes brings him closer to tthe end of his road. Dr M, where you gonna migrate to? Zimbabwe or Madagascar?

  • The top two is Malaysia’s version of Laurel & Hardy – comedians.

Sorry to burst your bubble Nat, but Nizar met with the Sultan today – if the Sultan had agreed to the dissolution of the State Assembly or even hinted that he might be amenable to the idea, PR would be all over themselves (and the press.)

Not a peep from Nizar n gang since morning.
Probably bad news from the Palace.

    Que sera sera.

Perhaps the second and final revolution is taking place – nearly a year after the first one. Let’s wait and see.
