I’m sure many will speak out against the double standards that are so clearly evident in tonight’s arrests of anti-war protestors in Dataran Merdeka.
That thousands can march, yell and burn flags, while a crowd barely a tenth the size cannot light candles in a field dedicated to independence is beyond shameful.
The question continuously burning is: do the police and authorities hate us so much?
Do they hate leftists? Pakatan supporters? Anyone who doesn’t dance to the tune of the status quo?
Do they hate us to the point where they act in ways that will be incredibly unpopular, simply to spite a group of citizens who are posing no threat, and have anti-war stances that are almost universally felt in Malaysia today?
And I would like to see a police permit for each and every single anti-war protest and BN ceramah in KT, as well as concrete proof that the gathering earlier tonight posed a greater threat to public order than all the others.
How hollow does it ring, for those who make a show of decrying oppression, to be themselves oppressors in every way.
The 21 arrestees are being held at the same police station I spent my little jail time in. I hope they spend even less time than I did there.
More to come soon on all this, I hope.

I fully agree that this is double std.
But the Opposition should not voice out what happens thousands of miles away until all the gross injustices in our own soil are given full attention – that is voice them out 1st before going overseas.
The violence and injustice done to our indigenous people. Their lands robbed by the authorities esp. in S’wak n Sabah, and given to cronies to plant oil palms, build factories, etc.
The unfair treatment of the minority races.
Anyway the Palestinians voted for a militant or terrorist org. – Hamas to be their govt. so they should also get part of the blame.
Hamas is only bent on violence to achieve their goals.
Being trained in terror – they are not fit to rule until they abstain from miltant behaviour.
They do not care about their own people as they refused to stop the rocket attacks so that a truce can come on!
Hamas should know that Israel is protected and controlled by the Illuminati whose goal is to cause incite the MUSLIMS against the JEWS AND CHRISTIANS to bring about WWIII.
Iran already has nuclear weapons the scenerio is ripe for a conflagration.
nat..

incredible isnt it? double standards are as clear as daylight. so, still a perception, Chor?
oh by the way, you call this democracy when you need a police permit for an election? and there are enforced holidays against campaigning during the election period? IGP, can you give us an answer, a non-erudite one will be sufficient.
BN is gone forever… You can count on it.
LET THOSE WHO WON’T LISTEN BE CHASTEN
Why are there some folks with ears that won’t listen
Why are there some brains that will never ever hasten
Why are there some hearts never to commonsense fasten
Why are there some nuts only with wrong values chasten

STRANGE ARRESTS FOR THE WORLD TO ATTEST
Won’t the world find it strange
With selective action to estrange
Watchers of peaceful vigil with arrests
While rowdy demonstrators freely beat their chests

AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO DEMONSTRATE ANYWHERE IN MALAYSIA FOR ANY PURPOSE, THEN YOU HAVE TO BE FROM THE BN. THE POLICE WILL NOT HARASS NOR ARREST THE DEMONSTRATORS. BUT IF YOU ARE FROM PAKATAN OR SOMEWHERE ELSE THEN DIFFERENT STORY. THIS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WE REALLY HAVE A CORRUPT FREE, HARD WORKING AND FAIR POLICE FORCE.
Double standards obviously. They also arrest Jerit cyclists accused of using children but recently Minister of Education did the same without any action taken. Looks like the police has been brainwashed for 51 years and to them, BN is master, not voters, not the taxpayers and not the everyday rakyat. Malaysia Bolih!
Hi all,
The arrest of 21 protesters last nite is NOTHING NEW. This ain’t the 1st time & would NEVER be the last as well. I foresee more to come in the near future.
Regardless whether it’s double standard practice or bias actions, protests is NOT the right way!!! So what if the entire nation participate in a mass protest against Israel??? Will it change anything??? Hell NO!!!
Hence, why should Malaysians cause unecessary problems with the authorities for something of which will NOT bring any change but shame instead??? Are Malaysians simply too free having nothing to do which result them to waste precious time by creating unnecessary chaos with their so-called moronic protest???
Be it people from BN or Pakatan Rakyat who support & participated in such protests, these dudes are merely a bunch of waste. There are abundance of more useful things to do These protesters are a shameful lot with no directions in life. Sad!!!
johnny
corrupt free, hardworking and fair police force.
ask chor and hamid and they will nod in agreement. ask the Igp, same conclusion. ask anyone else outside hardcore BN members, you will get a third finger.
1) The Israel offensive is NOT Malaysia’s problem. Malaysians should refrain from being busybodies trying to interfere with something that have no whatsoever relation to them.
2) This war is between Israel & Palestine. Why must Malaysians be ‘KAYPOCHI’???
3) Let the Jews (Israel) & Muslims (Palestine) fight it out among themselves. The confrontations between these 2 parties have been going on for decades. What’s the BIG DEAL??? Let them fight lah!!!
4) Since these 2 moronic parties like to fight that much, we might as well allow them to fight till DEATH. Winner takes all !!! Why protest???
5) This war is a good chance to see who is more SUPERIOR. The Jews or Muslims??? There need to be a WINNER here.
What is the point of protesting & shouting “Hidup Palestine” when these protesters should be concerntrating in local issues instead??? Take a look at Malaysia & it’s in a total mess. Yet, these protesteres choose to focus on something that is faraway when their own backyard is as filthy & messy like a pig sty.
Are these protesters plain ignorant or are they simply out to gain cheap publicity for the wrong reason?
“Take a look at your own house first before you comment on other prople’s house”. Makes Sense???
nat: again, while i respect freedom of expression, it falls upon me to note that ‘oky’, ‘i support war’ and ‘chong gin meng’ in this comment thread have used the same e-mail and ip address.
