Beaten, kicked, stepped on and scalded with boiling water by police

Apologies for lateness, and to Malaysiakini for so much pasting, but such horrifying police brutality truly cannot be let pass unnoticed:

B Prabakar had on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the police headquarters requesting them to investigate the alleged police abuse against him.

He had claimed that he was picked up from his work place at Sri Hartamas on Dec 23 and taken for interrogation at the Brickfields police district headquarters where he was repeatedly beaten, kicked and stepped on by at least 10 police personnel.

He said the police officers involved then scalded him with boiling water after he could not identify several persons in some photographs.

Prabakar further said that during his five-day remand period, police had hung a long piece of cloth from the interrogation room ceiling and tied it around his neck while he stood on a chair. They then threatened to knock away the chair, he said.

Prabakar added that he was now worried over what has happened to his 18-year-old cousin, C Soloman, who was also picked up by police on the same day as him. His location to date is still unknown.

man-tortured-at-brickfields-police-station-311208-b-prabakar-01Prabakar (left) was released from his remand on police bail by the magistrate’s court on Dec 28 pending a court appearance on Jan 11.

Cousin’s statement recorded too

Earlier today, a group of 60 people had gathered at the Brickfield’s police district headquarters to voice concern over Prabakar’s allegations.

They were led by PKR Kapar Member of Parliament, S Manikavasagam, Prabakar’s lawyer, N Surendran, and NGO Police Watch representative, S Jayathas.

After the group was told that the case was being handled by Bukit Aman, they headed for the national police headquarters where an investigating officer by the name of Mohd Faizal from Bukit Aman’s Prosecution and Legislation Unit took down statements from Prabakar and his mother, N Rani.

Cousin’s whereabouts unknown

Meanwhile, concern was expressed over the fate of Prabakar’s cousin, Soloman.

“When asked about Soloman, the officer pretended not to know anything. After pressing him on the matter several times, he then admitted that a statement had been taken from Soloman,” said Surendran

Manikavasagam said that Soloman’s whereabouts were unknown. “Whether he is alive or dead, we don’t know. He is only 18 years old so maybe he is very afraid.”

Surendran expressed regret that action had yet to be taken towards the 10 police officers involved in Prabakar’s alleged abuse.

“None of the 10 police officers, including one female officer, have been suspended,” he said.

Was Prabakar involved in gangs terrorising Hartamas pubs?

nat: i haven’t the faintest clue. but i think in principle, even mass murderers probably don’t deserve that kind of treatment

  • yap

There must be valid reasons for the police to act that way.

You dont expect the police to be as sopan-santun as a newly wedded bride.

Lets despise criminals, and support the law enforcer.

    Hi Nat,

I recognised this man by the name of PRABAKAR. He is one of those ILLEGAL JAGA KERETA BOYS in Hartamas area (near Coffee Bean & SODA club). I frequent that area very often.

Although he might NOT be the main culprit in crimes around Hartamas but I can confirm he is working closely with a bunch of INDONESIAN THUGS who target late nite parkers around that vicinity. I was once robbed there & this guy PRABAKAR was near the crime scene but pretended NOT to know anything. Moreover, I suspect he acts as an informer guarding the main entrance of the open space carpark lot tipping off his members should there be any passer-by or Police. I confronted him after the robbery but he pretended he heard & saw nothing although I can confirm he is barely 100 metres away.

I made a police report on this & was told by Police I’m NOT the 1st victim in that carpark area. Several weeks later, my friend was also robbed by a group of Indonesians & he can confirm the same Indian Man (PRABAKAR) was again near the scene but acted as if he heard & saw nothing. My friend & I came up with the suspicion that PRABAKAR is involved in crimes around that area although he is NOT the main culprit.

    NO SYMPATHY for PRABAKAR!!!
“Well done PDRM”. I believe with your swift & cooperative actions will make Hartamas a peaceful area again.

IMPORTANT: To those who are against PRABAKAR’s treatment by PDRM……”Wait till you or loved ones get robbed, raped or killed in Hartamas, then, we’ll see whether you’ll still support PRABAKAR”. Have a thought for the sake of PEACE!!!

  • Dear Nat, i agree with you even a mass murderer doesnt deserve such cruel treatment. My bro’s friend was incarcerated for a week after a fight broke out in front of his burger stall, that resulted in one being stabbed. Instead of going after those who caused such crime (apparently one of the group member has connection with the police), he was put in jail for 1 week, in his undies, eating rotten food, sleeping on the cement – and no policeman has the courtesy to inform his family. All the policemen did was pushing him to confess that he was the one that stabbed the guy. The family got to know after searching for him high and low and when they said that they will take this injustice to court, the inspector chuckled and said all they can get is a mere RM1. As a result of this injustice, my bro’s friend was fired (for not turning to work for 1 week) and his fiancee left him. Until now, he survice on odd jobs and is emotionally scarred. Nat, my heart cries for such injustice.

  • humaneructus

hallo genius “chong gin meng” .The PDRM should not go overboard like that .The appropriate way is to prosecute him in court and let the law take its course.Your opinion is a nut and nonsense chong gin meng .

  • Mohd Arshad Raji

    Dear Nat,

Rather than beat the hell out of them in police cells, why not just shoot them dead. That was what the Indonesian police did to all known rogues in Jakarta some time ago. They did solve a problem. Anyway, these rogues knows no mercy too. Look at how people die from snatch thieves. I almost died chasing a snatch thief along Jalan Sultan Ismail some years ago.

How shallow minded and heartless some commentators here can get?In the first place if our corrupt POLIS`RAJA’DI MALAYSIA did their duty without fear or favour and free of bribery and focus in their ultimate duty which is to protect the rakyat, will any criminals will be `bermaharajalela’.Come on lah dey,`holier than thous’there are so many illegal activities like unlicensed night clubs even supplying designer drugs, running brothels, peddling illegal DVDs etc etc right under the nose of certain Balais’.How come?Is it because those criminals can afford to pay the police ,so it’s alright to close one eye?

I am not condoning any criminals here.My contention is,why did the police torture some one without evidence until scald some one with boiling water than warn and try to bribe that person not to reveal anything to the judge?Bigger criminals are there in every ethnic group, why is that always only Indian suspects are being killed in our lock-ups?Then the police say they commited suicide by hanging themselves?I know some places in JB,where rich Chinese underworld gangs are operating using many Indian thugs and use their pubs and clubs as a front, these things are going on for many years, and dont tell me,the police doesn’t know, those `taukes’?Is it because they can afford to pay the police off or the polices’inteligence unit is so poor?

Whoever the criminal maybe, such torture of splashing boiled water by so many policemen on a man who has been handcuffed and hung by a cloth around his neck and made to stand on a stool threatening to kill him is attempeted murder, even if one is guilty of a crime. There is a court of law to try these criminals according to the gravity of their crime.Who are the police to be the prosecutor and judge? Are they holier than thou?Ask them to first do their duty and carry out their duty efficiently instead of wasting time protecting the politicians and the crime rate will definitely come down.
Nat,I am glad you brought up this issue here as I did not see any bangsa anak Malaysia bloggers talk about this sort of injustices meted out to innocent Malaysians. One is innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.If the police cant prove it,it simply means they have failed in carrying out their duty effectively and one dont go around splashing boil water or threatening to hang. That is a gross violation of human rights.

polis malaysia is much worse than ah long.

  • joenathan

    Mohd Arshad Raji,
I too was a victim of mat rempits once, but I dont agree with you,to shoot and kill people, thats a very sickening solution, you are no better than those criminals. We cant be killing all youths who are commiting crime, there must be a reason for such crimes to be commited by these people. The root cause has to be identified by the police and our so called leaders.

    Mohd Arshad Raji,
If one goes according to your logic, then many young Mat Rempits will be dying every day.I was once a victim of these Mat Rempits, but I dont agree with you.The root cause of all these evil affecting our youths have to be identified by the police force and also our so called leaders. The police have to serve the rakyat first and not the politicians as we the rakyat are paying their salary. But that will never happen lar ,because of bribery and corruption, think out of your box lar.The police is as racist as you sound, practising double standards and make us a laughing stock of the world. You are so intelligent just like our UMNO and BN leaders dar and make Malaysia a laughing stock of the world.

    Hi Nat & all commentators,

Whether PDRM are a bunch of fools or whether PRABAKAR is a criminal….’This ain’t the MAIN POINT”. The main point is how to get rid of crime or otherwise reduce crime rate. This applies not only to Hartamas area but nationwide. I’ve a few points of which I believe would be useful to tackle this issue.

    3) “No one is guilty before sentecing????” My 2 NUTS!!! If everyone thinks the court is fair, then, why is so many Pakatan Rakyat supporters making a BIG HOO HA over Abdul Razak acquittal??? Didn’t the court says Abdul Razak is a innocent man???

    4) If the court is the right place to determine a crook’s fate, then, Anwar Ibrahim is indeed a WICKED MUTAFAKAR CORRUPTED WANKER. Pls. note the court pleaded him GUILTY for corruption way back in 1998. So, why are all those Keadilan donkeys still supporting him???

    5) To those who think what CHONG GIN MENG commented is WRONG…I wish their loved ones will be ROBBED, KILLED or even RAPED by criminals soon. I hope this happens as soon as today. With the existence of tragedy would only make one realise what is RIGHT & WRONG.

    7) Its sad we have many donkeys here fighting for crooks instead of against them. Perhaps, these commentators grew up in a household filled with crooks.

    8) This issue shouldn’t be even brought to light. What PDRM did to PRABAKAR is indeed the right thing!!!

    9) Only dudes from Pakatan Rakyat would harp on such an issue. Afterall, who can blame them for something they are good in???? “HARPING ON SENSELESS ISSUE JUST TO GAIN CHEAP PUBLICITY”.

“We should be lucky to have PDRM around”. They have improved tremendously & we should have faith in them. Well done, Tan Sri Musa Hassan!!!

  • Chong Gin Meng

    Bunch of SAD FOOLS here.

How ironic!!! These idiots here are fighting for CROOKS instead of against them. How ironic!!

“Go get a life…a proper one, I mean”

nat: as moderator, i should point out that chong gin meng and lim jing meng are commentating from the same ip address.

No post on the Palestinians’ plight, guv?

    Nothing in it for PR?

Sing it with me, it’s all about Pakatan Rakyat, not the Rakyat!

nat: all in good time old friend, all in good time.

  • bowl

    Okay good to hear that.

I guess it makes sense for articles that would incite hatred towards BN and glorify PR to receive priority above the ridiculous situation in Palestine, and get posted first.

    :)

  • Gan

I think it’s sad to see such brutality and pain being inflicted on another human being.

So what makes the PDRM any different from the Nazis?

what if the PDRM uses the same method on an innocent person to force a confession?

    Hi All,

The police will be behave because they they are not accountable to the public. Instead they are the “henchman and assassins of the “mentris” who protect them and nurture them. Cops do the dirty work for the “top dogs” and the hospitals are in it too.

Malaysian apartheid system is producing criminals at an alarming rate. Indians have useless MIC leaders, an indifferent government that practices open discrimination combine this with poverty,a backward Indian education system and general injustice you a get a criminals.

  • How quickly would you retort if someone told you that a Malay (not being racist) gang, actually controls and maintains the racketeering of pubs and parking lots in Hartamas, Bangsar, TTDI, and Curve?

What would you say, if this same group of people were in fact given “authority” by the powers that be to control these areas? And that most of these people actually answer to the police themselves?

    What would you say then?

What would you say, if I told you that early last year, someone I knew was killed in a brawl, fighting some 20-30 people on his own? As his horrified girlfriend watched them break bottles on his head and pummel him until he no longer moved?

    What would you say then?

What would you say if you found out that all the news about this incident and the people involved was a charade?

What would you say if you met “friends” of the actual perpertrators and they reminisced like it was yesterday, with a broken smile for another bad day?

But yes, the Indonesians are the culprits right? the Indonesians, they’re all bad aren’t they?…WRONG!!!

And what would you say if you discovered that Malaysian gangs regardless of ethnicity are linked to very high profile players?

I’m still waiting for a group of Indian or Chinese motorcyclists to stand in front of a police station and throw stones at them. With police officers “hiding” inside, unsure of what to do.

When that day comes, we’ll talk about actual gangsterism.

Until then, don’t act like you’re all good. We are all a part of this mess we call our daily lives. We condone it by not doing a thing, but if we do something, we’ll pay dearly.

Wat to do…wat to do? To each his own.

We can however start by thinking and embracing each other as 1 people and not, Malay, Chinese, Indian dan lain lain.
