I only learnt this morning, what someone paying better attention would have read a long time ago.
Syukree was a good guy who was always nice to me. I related most to Black’s reflection, and probably was not all I could be to him.
Reading of Syukree’s passing, I couldn’t help but think of Salman.
It’s all so strange and sad.
I worked a bit with Syukree a long time ago, on suarakeadilan.com. He was a great help – fast and efficient, which was everything in the business.
He fell ill at some point and was hospitalised for a while. I went with the SK staff to UH and I was pretty worried about him.
Eventually, he got better, but still seemed to be facing some problems and got embroiled in some controversy here and there.
I think he’s had some trouble fitting in in general. I often wondered whether he would turn out alright and be able to make his way sustainably in the world.
I can’t recall ever once acting on my concerns.
Everytime we met, Syukree was of good cheer and warm to me. The last I saw of him, like Zorro, was at the PJ rally last Sunday.
He asked if I was going to Kuala Terengganu, and said that if I did, I should stop by his family home there, where he was from. I seem to recall that he had extended the same invitation to many of us.
His sense of humour was a gift, his good heart known to all.
If I hadn’t been goofing my life away yesterday afternoon, perhaps I would have learnt of this earlier and been able to go and pay my respects to the family.
