Much to write about on the weekend, but first, more appalling news on the JERIT cyclists. Info is from the JERIT website as well as e-mails pasted out below.
The degree of police intimidation against these activists is as horrible as it is stupefying. I can only imagine that the cops must be wetting their pants in paranoia of these handful of cyclists being the seeds of a nationwide movement to topple the forces of injustice or something.
I mean, if you really want to go after people on two wheels, I can think of a lot more reasonable targets than people cycling for a better Malaysia.
Apparently, the Selangor Chief Police Officer, our old friend Mr. Khalid, is overseeing this personally. I had tea today with an old friend who had nice things to say about him, but I think here actions speak louder than words.
Being intimately involved in the anti-Negaraku operation, his unwarranted and wholly unnecessary use of disproportionate force must be seen as yet another abject abuse of power.
Until better treatment is shown to peace loving Malaysians who only want to see a better nation for us and our children, I am forced to conclude again that the shameful brutalisation of these cyclists by the cops is their way of bullying the weak and defenceless – a cowardly response to having been bullied mercilessly by criminals all over Malaysia who regularly show them who really is boss around here.

9.32 PM , Balai Polis Rawang
The Northern team is being held up in BAlai Polis Rawang since 5pm. JERIT activist were taken in for questioning and suddenly now they are being charged for illegal assembly.
THe cyclists mainly youths and students, are being held in the car park surrounded by yellow tape. The Police say they are not under arrest but then they are not allowed to move out of the yellow tape.
This action is violating the children’s rigthts as they are being held in a police station after 6pm ( legally cannot) and there is not Jabatan Kebajikan officer there.
Please call the OCPD and protest this act and demand the immediate release of the cyclists and activists.
Around 50 people are doing candle light vigil outside the balai polis rawang: please go there to give support if possible,

The Cyclist Association should organized a campaign to get all their membersto surrender themselves at the Police Headquarters for being ‘users’ of the roads, let’s see how these blue uniformed monkeys will react.

These police bums are only good at arresting and intimidating innocent rakyat. There are thousands of criminals, rapists, robbers, murderers, racialists etc….out there and yet they did not OR DARE NOT do anything about it. To me they are not police but running dogs for the BN politicians bums. What a digraceful and shameful bunch.
