Crime: Najib’s idiotic focus on perception rather than substance

Najib:

While the public is increasingly worried by the rise in crime, statistics however show that the crime rate in Malaysia is far lower than Japan and Hong Kong, said Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today.

“We understand that the police have been working seriously, but there are still matters that can be undertaken to improve the perception of the police, and measures can be taken to improve the confidence of the people on the police and the safety of the country,”

Ah. Cops in Malaysia are perfect; they just have bad public relations eh?

And let’s thank heavens for no Yakuza or triads eh? This is like saying (as Anwar loves to illustrate) that our economy is better than Somalia’s and Zimababwe’s.

Not paying attentionla you boss. I know you want to get cozy with the law enforcement in the country (hidden files?), but this is a bit divorced from reality wei.

Negative perception? Low confidence?

Why don’t you trying improving the *actual performance* of the police force, rather than ‘manage perception’?

Good performance, keep Malaysians and their neighbourhoods safe, good perception will follow automatically.

Don’t bring your political culture of bullshit before substance into something so important to the everyday lives of Malaysians the nation over.

  • I wonder what statistics were Najib referring to. Malaysia safer than HK and Japan? I strongly doubt so.

  • Stats are irrelevant here. When the rakyat walk on the street and instinctively feel the need to watch their back, that’s the best yardstick of the crime rate. As long as such perception remains, only a disconnected UMNO minister would dare to come out and say Malaysia is safer than HK and Japan. And I think Najib lives in a place called “Najib’s Malaysia”, whereas we all live in Malaysia (no quotes).

“There lies, lies, and damned statistics”

Probably the reason the numbers are higher in HK and Japan bcz they actually record all crimes committed. Here, in the spirit of Malaysia Boleh, some go conveniently missing from the records.

  • annoyed

    what talk you, najis.

EVERY LIFE COUNTS. it is not a matter of statistics.

Well, compared to HK and Japan, why not we compared economies, GDP, education, quality of life, income level etc.

bullshit, najis. altantuya is still not rest in peace yet! can we find C4 in HK and Japan.

  • rightful

Just came back from HK. I could see police constantly walking in the street, everywhere. What is he talking about? Jangan bohonglah!

  • Ex Neutral

I totally doubt his statistic. Probably attemps to deceive. Probably kidding himself also. Please get serious. He did admit that crime is on the rise. That’s the pain everyone is feeling.Do something serious and fast.

  • Eagle has landed

Just stop bullshitting and who believe him anyway?
Why compare with Japan and Hk….wow still trying to bullshit, not enough of lies on our economy and here come another lie for his political expediency .

  • Artic Turban

Now do you understand why the police does not want to accept impossible to solve crimes, snatch thefts, cbt, muggings, political corruption, etc POLICE REPORTS from the public, because the CRIME STATS. will shoot through the roof.

  • sinnerconman

To kill one person, there is only one death and that is a tragedy. To kill a million results in a million deaths and this is called a statistic. This is the statistic when altantuya’s body was C4ed into million pieces. Ajis has good statistics for denials and swearing on his so called holy book. He is pregnant with evils and he delivers lies and wickedness. He can neither sleep nor rest in peace EVER.

  • philipy

That idiotic perception of an idiot, try to insult our intelligence.
Wants us to compare to Japan and Hong Kong.We r complaining and concern about crime rates in Malaysia, what has it to do with those countries which r quite far away.

  • at least MAT MONNGOL feel safe in BODOHLAND,GLOKAL = GOBLOK LOKAL …HA HA HA!ha ha ha………..ha ha,beavis got humor

  • we should also be proud that the case of altantuya shows that we are more advance than HK and Japan in a way,our murderer in bolehland uses C4 …….ha ha

  • rajan

Please do not compare with giant countries. We are a small natr5ion with abudance crime. The enforcement officers are only after the law abiding Malaysians when they demonstrate their democratic rights. The enforcement officers are not doing anything about the daily kindnapping, robberies, snatch thieves, muggings, killings etc, etc. These did not happen 50 years ago when the chines, malays and indians achieve independence from the British, now they are talking about Malay supremacy. You can talks about Ketuanan Melayu if you single handedly achief independence from Britian otherwise please hold your ……….

  • at least we are more advance than HK and japan in a way,we use C4 to murder people in bolehland

  • This guy’s lack of grey matter is telling. What a tragedy that he should be the next PM of Malaysia.

  • little ct

question what IS the actual crime rate and how can we get at it

  • Talking about stats, case in point: when my wallet was stolen in a 5-star hotel (putrajaya Marriott) last year, the hotel eagerly sent someone (an ex-police officer) to help me with lodging report at Putrajaya HQ. He conveniently used the term ‘cuai’ (careless) and omitted ‘curi’. I immediately understood. My case did not go into the crime stats, and the police did not have to visi the hotel to investigate. Everyone was happy, except me – having to pay the fine to National Registration Dept for being careless with my IC.

So Najib, who said the police fails to manage perception? At least it started since last year if what I know. The numbers are lower in stats hence rakyat’s perception and instinct are more accurate. Sigh…

  • maie58

please walk the talk Najib!Look at your face to the mirror, give us one exemple that people can emulate your personal behaviour?we wanted to see altantuya’s case be open again under full and transparent investigation not by musa hassan n ghani patail team.,then you can talk about perception of our enforcement agency.

  • malaysianpeople
