Malaysia’s Moment to Unite

Note: Don’t forget the solidarity vigil tonight. Stay peaceful, and be calm in the face of any provocateurs.
Date: 13 September 2008
Place: Bukit Aman Police HQ Entrance
Time: 8.30 pm

Malaysia is facing a malicious attempt at false provocation.

Clearly, the selectiveness of the ISA arrests is an insidious and misleading attempt to create resentment among particular communities. Why else arrest the messenger but not the message maker, or a politician proven to be only falsely accused?

Perhaps it is hoped that impassioned and racially tinged sentiments will be expressed in the coming days, escalating to even more impassioned racial reactions. This in turn may lay the ground for emergency rule, and for all the suspension of civil liberties and human rights that follow.

What the powers that be have forgotten however, is that Malaysia is better than that.

On March 8th, Malaysians refused to vote purely on racial lines and instead chose their leaders based on issues that affect us all as a united Malaysian nation.

This time, once again, we will not fall for the trap that is racial fear mongering. We will not be pawns in the political manoeuvrings of the ever crumbling ruling party. We will not be trapped in racial polemics, or ever again draw the bitter lines of conflict along the lines of racial division.

While race is not something that must never be talked about and only swept under the carpet, the simple truth of the matter is that the crisis that is now enveloping Malaysia is not about race at all.

It is about keeping the movement for a better Malaysia alive; it is about rejecting a culture of fear and corruption in favour of a culture of integrity and good governance; most of all, it is about protecting what we as a united people regardless of race and religion hold dear as Malaysians, as mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons.

The time has come to speak out in the right language. The language of upholding truth, human rights and our love for one another as Malaysians.

We will reject the language of race, and the utterly misleading temptation to describe the current crisis as a conflict between ethnic communities.

We will not talk the way they want us to, about supposed injustices and insults inflicted by one race on another, or about how one group supposedly steals from another, or any other such lies and misrepresentations.

These are the same tools used the world over throughout history to incite multiracial populations into hate; populations that would and do coexist peacefully and in harmony if not for the manipulations of power obsessed politicians.

Instead, we will speak of defending those who speak truth to power; we will speak of upholding the rule of law and due process, not the use of draconian colonial laws at whim or fancy; we will speak, most of all, of our desire to remain united as Malaysians and continue to love our neighbours as we have done for decades in peace.

When talk is no longer sufficient we will act. We will act only peacefully, without burning tires or harming even a fly.

We will learn the lessons of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Mandela and practice peaceful civil activism. We will stand together and rise in defence of our principles, our patriotism and our unity.

If the first line of leadership is taken in, the second must take its place; if the second line falls, the third must rise, and so on until every Malaysian stands up to be counted and to resist injustice.

Whether our country will emerge from this tunnel into the light, or whether we lose our best chance to finally break free of the lies that create racial conflict, will depend entirely on ourselves and our resolve.

If we stand firm now, united and without fear in the face of the challenges and temptations ahead; if we be strong, and take courage; we will see the invincible strength of a united people, and finally win for all Malaysians the Malaysia we deserve.

All nice words. But PKR has talked too much already-lah. Just deliver-lah and stop manipulating the people already. The ball is on your hand. Just do it, Anwar.

MORONIC PEEM AND BOTAK HOME MINISTER LAST DESPERATE ATTEMPTS TO CLING ON POWER WITH FEAR TACTICS

To all BN components’ MPs with consciences, throw them out tomorrow to welcome a new Dawn of Malaysia with the divine grace.

Was UMNO so scared of RPK that they have to place him under ISA arrest? Or they have now collaborated with the murderers of Altantuya because more dirty linens have to be washed in Public that leave the Guilty C4 no choice despite his Swearing Circus & in order to silence RPK by placing him away safely is by using ISA to avoid more revelations of their crimes if he is taken to court under the sedition charges???

Come the new Dawn of Malaysia that Justice must now be done to those Guilty of Murder and Conspiracy and also for those who were detained without trial or the rights of appeal.

  • United is our strength, divided, we all will fall. The moment of truth has come. Pretenders, stand aside. True believers of democracy, let’s march on. They call silence a few but, they will not silence me!
Mad cow disease have now infected the whole lot of these Umno herd, so take caution and be patient. They are roaming wildly but, their rule is terminal.
We shall burn the candle light of hope. A hope for a bright tomorrow…integration and equality for all Malaysians.

Looks like if you speaks the truth, you go to jail.
    Thats what “MALAYSIA BOLEH” means.

  • I am losing hope already. Just like many of the Malaysians out there, I am desperate to see some signs for a new Malaysia that will overthrow the UMNO dogs and rot with their laws and racist mentality.

You are right, this is merely instigated to provoke racial disharmony. Why don’t we propose to have as many as possible and volunteer ourselves to have the gomen arrest us. See how many can they detain and whether Kamunting have enough places for all of us, 10,000, 20K 30K? We will tell the gomen that we do not mind being with The reporter, RPK and Teresa inside this detention camp. After all, is only for a few days as DSAI and PR shall form a new govt to release us. Any one interested to take a chance with free lodging and food. Life inside is not that bad, it will be exciting with so many of us, we will have fun inside the camp. Since if there are many of us, the authorities will think twice if they abuse their power. I for one will not hesitate to volunteer to be inside. How long can the gomen detain us if there are so many to feed and to control us inside this camp will be a gigantic task. These idiots, believe me will be outnumbered by us.

Give Anwar Ibrahim time and space to work things out strategically and systematically.

The other side is not likely to give PR a walkover, They are fighting back by all means possible including the use of the draconian ISA. They will taunt us, the rakyat; they will intimidate journalists and bloggers and they may even create the pretext for emergency.

Nat’s advice should be heeded. The Gandhian approach is best at this time.

    Comrades,

We should create a wave of candle vigils around whole of Malaysia starting tonight at Bukit Aman, KL & Dewan Sri Pinang in Penang. This is the time to remind those idiots that March 8th was achieved out of solidarity for a new beginning. Peace is the way to go and we should get the world to notice that we, the new Malaysia, are people of peace !!!

guys do not be stupid I think this will only give UMN the license fr them to catch DSAI too…

DO NOT gather at bukit aman at 13 september tonite, IT WILL ONLY GIVE THEM PERMIT TO CONDUCT MAY 13 ver.2

DO NOT BE STUPID, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS IDIOT NATANIEL TAN

WE CAN RIOT ALL WE WANT LATER WHEN ANWAR BECAME PM AND CHARGE PAK LA AND SIL.

nat: yes, there are always dangers, but we must not give up our right to gather peacefully in solidarity. my faith lies in the wisdom of Malaysians. And don’t be silly, we are not going to riot anytime, no matter who is in government.

  • There is a time for everything…

Now is the time to unite…yes, the rakyat must unite.

  • Please stop you intention for tonight event. Is true we must stand up and show to them that we unite but now is not the time. this might what they wan and you all might fall into their trap. You might hold a peaceful protest but it can turn bad as you know they are capable to do everythg unexpected….

They might be a better way to unite eg:- stop all our outdoor activity from tonight onwards till September 16. This is a true form of unity. KL city will become a ghost city for few day and let UMNO/BN know that we-the rakyat is very unhappy and angry on what happen.

By staying away, we can avoid anythg untowards happen and there is no reason for them to trap us and create chaos and declare state of emergency. Isn’t this less risky compare to the other?

    Peace Malaysian….

nathaniel, i agree with your opinion here. i believe that certain quarters in this country of ours are provoking sentiments that may lead to another horrific may 13.

being in close watch of the recent developments of the so called racial tension that is on the rise. again and again i see that the malays of UMNO are saying things that are very seditious and can definitely burn the fire of hatred of th malays towards the non malays.

i believe this is a planned moved by a the sinking government lled by UMNO.

first it was the Penang UMNO head saying that the chinese are mere squatters of the country. Playing the racial card so cheaply then blaming the chinese for politicising and over rated the issue.

then u see in perak, attempts of character assasination by distributing super imposed pictures of the DAP members in the midst of sexual indulgence.
making the malays in perak feel as if they have made a big blunder in choosing PR to govern the state.

next we see khir toyo saying “dont poke a hornets nest” to the non malays on the issue of lowering the speaker volume at some mosques.

i believe this are very dirty tricks that UMNO is using to cause raciial tensions. these malicious tactics shouuld not be bought and we malaysians should be more rational and practical about current issues.

being in a peaceful state is what all of us should be doing. whether we should be like mahatma gandhi or martin luther king is not the matter. we should take this tough time in our own stride and come out of it victoriously in a malaysian style.

This message is directly to Estilo. Estilo for goodness sake use your brains before you speak. Please don’t behave like the Komodo Lion. First of all, RPK did not talk only….his actions speak louder than any one of us here…..he prefers jail terms than bail just to proof to everyone he is committed to his belief……and I salute him for this….secondly, to topple the government is not like going to the supermarket to buy a shampoo….it is not overnight success…..

If you think it just merely sweet talk from Anwar and RPK, then please shut your mouth and continue with your pathetic life….

  • Wise One

Please do not let this gathering be made into a grounds for further justification of ISA arrests. Someone will plant provocateurs to disrupt this… Be patient. Advise to not take these matters into our own hands. Just wait for the day of reckoning that is fast approaching.

    Jackal,

I was talking about PKR not RPK. I am especially troubled by their tactic of stirring up all the shit, and they must deliver now. Otherwise I will hold them responsible for Teresa being arrested.

I know it’s not easy to topple BN, but there are many ways to do it. If you have enough BN, just get things rolling-lah. Otherwise stop all these maybe 916, maybe not shit, go to Taiwan, don’t have to go to Taiwan shit. It’s pathetic. They are manipulating your disgusts towards BN. Wake up!

  • Remeber Reformasi..
We riot, we burn, I was there when the whole pasar seni area went empty because I was at Cyber C when it happened.
tak puas hati pasal tol WE RIOT, tak puas hati pasal MAHAFIRAUN we riot but what happen then PRU 10 AND 11 BN menang gak, tol naik gak, u think gomen going to let go teresa n RPK if we riot ka??

I understand u nataniel cause I was there 10 years a go but we need an alternative and this HARTAL thing they got going might work go to this link http://harismibrahim.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/so-do-we-hartal-isa/

Don’t talk about unity when vernacular school still around, that is the reason of all racial polarization, segregation and misunderstanding that is implanted in young children. Abolish it first then we can talk about unity.
