Home Ministry says Sin Chew the one playing up racial sentiments

I get this feeling no one is really ‘celebrating’ over the unblocking of Malaysia-Today, least of all Raja Petra it seems. (I have one quick question: everywhere reports that multiple websites have been unblocked. Which websites besides MT were blocked to begin with?)

There seems a good reason for this. Just today, the Home Ministry launches yet another attack on press freedom:

The Home Ministry has asked three newspapers to show cause on why action should not be taken against them over their news coverage on a number of political issues.

Confirming this, the ministry’s Publications Control and Al-Quran Texts Unit secretary Che Din Yusof told Malaysiakini today that the three papers were English daily The Sun, Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily and opposition PKR’s party organ Suara Keadilan.

He said the ministry has issued the show-cause letters yesterday and the three papers had been given a week to reply.

According to him, The Sun was asked to show cause for allegedly “manipulating and playing up numerous sensitive issues”.

Meanwhile, Sin Chew has been targeted for its recent reports on the racial slur controversy involving Umno division leader Ahmad Ismail.

I haven’t the faintest clue what they’re talking about re: theSun, who has a fairly decent record of being objective.

The Sin Chew thing really gets me.

If a public figure says something seditious, and a newspaper reports it, the government goes after….. the newspaper?? :|

Bollocks!

What a load of rubbish, unless they move to Martial rule, I’m confident they will be gone soon. Maybe not 916 but soon, real soon.

Hamid Jabar is the dumbest minister I have come across. He is a shame to this country. Man with no brain, only with a big mouth. Whatever he tells all lies.

Maybe Syed Albar just woke up from his sleep. The reporters have reported real and true story about the UMNO’s clowns who have nothing better to do than to create chaos for the malays and chinese in Malaysia.Syed should issue the show-cause letter to his UMNO’s clown like Ahmad Ismail.Make him write reasons for causing so much problem in Malaysia and bringing shame to all Malaysia citizens.
By the way,Ahmad should stop involving the religion and malay community in your fight. If you are ‘muslim’ enough, you will understand that everyone of us are immigrants. Our feet are standing on the land created by god. So,Ahmad should just stop reminding anyone .And now Ahmad trying to advise UMNO to give him a post of an adviser.Ha ha ha….what a joke.A clown like him can continue talking alone.
Seriously there are just too many clowns in UMNO that i cant wait to see when they becomes history. To all Malaysia citizens, please go all out to celebrate when that party falls.Because that will be the best holiday ever.By the way Ahmad, dont wait for that 3 years………go and start to plant rubber trees.

    1. In the case of SCJP I think you’re being unfair.

    2. The show cause was not in reference to them merely reporting the alleged remarks by the politician.

    3. I believe they were dragging the issue over at least two weeks and making other commentary on the matter.

    4. The extra commentary is the subject of the Show Cause, not the mere fact of reporting.

    5. Other media have also reported the issue but have not been issued Show Cause letters.

  • Absolute bollocks!

If this is the kind of precedent that is going to be set in Malaysian media standards, then the politicians and public figures will be having a field day everyday, saying whatever they like, and the reporters will dare not to write any of it down.

Any hope in this stupid and mad BN goverment?

So, if anyone still question the moral issue about 916, I will get very agitated and angry. The BN govermnet is a mad and brainless goverment. We should by all means curse this BN goverment.

  • Hahaha, this Botak Syed Hamid is up to his monkey acts again. First the road blocks, then, blocking MT website and now, going after press. Has’nt he made a fool of himself enough?
Why was it necessary to issue a show cause letter to The Sin Chew. All that a reporter did, was giving a true account of the racist remarks made by a mad cow Ahmad. Is being professional in one’s work an offense?
Instead of charging this undesirable bloke under the sedition act, he is going after the messenger. What a blooming joke!
Malaysians are educated enough and quite capable of digesting materials we read, We definitely, do not require a below par Minister, to preach us his kind of morality.

  • Raja Petra arrested under ISA over an hour ago. So RPK was right in saying that there was something fishy about the un-banning of MT.

So this Democracy is a phoney. Doesn’t matter if it is that bas*ta%d Mahathir in charge or anyone else. UMNO is UMNO and stands against all that is good and right.

Parliament is but a symbol of hypocrisy and despotism.

What can one now expect for the future of the country? Another ZImbabwe soon. Evidence are aplenty – social, political and economical.

    GASP!!!!

A commenter predicted that exact thing on my blog!

Kalau label racist, pengarang media yang melaporkan kenyataan itu juga racist.

Funny. Didn’t Dollah says media must be brave to report the truth ??? Now botak act on those making these report. Where is the logic ??? Report was done base on comments and remarks as well as facts of wrong doing, but instead of acting on the those made the misdeed, it is now wrong those in the right. Is there any logic here ??? what kind on LAW is this shit ??? I hope PKR will achieve in taking over and make this right.

lol, Syed Hamid should have shown Nagib a show-cause letter because Nagib apologize for Ahmad racist comment..

Let see, sinchew reported the comment, DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER apologize to the public so the reporting by sinchew is true.

Unless sinchew defies the gag order or the UMNO government doesn’t want the public to know the truth then sinchew is deem as breaking the law..

Which law is more important?? The true law or Umno law?? Malaysian please decide..

  • What about UTUSAN MELOYA???? Utusan had played racial issues since may 08…. till now…

  • Silver Surfer

    Why Sin Chew?

Obviously that “punishment by UMNO supreme council towards Ahmad Ismail i only a sham.

Obviously the supreme council is on his side. Otherwise why try to threaten the Chinese malaysians indirectly through the show-cause letter to Sin Chew? What wrong did Sin Chew do?

No matter how it is spinned, UMNO is a racist, racial organization.

Hope it rots, and burn in hell, together with bloo*y Mahathir who moulded it into his likeness.

  • If there’s one paper that should get a showcause letter, its the Utusan.

Since March 9 they’ve been going on and on about how the Malays are gonna be enslaved by oh… those untrustworthy Non’s, how Malays will end up like Palestinians, how Teresa Kok is equivalent to Geert Wilders (the Dutch anti-Muslim politician & producer of ‘Fitna’), calling the Indians & Chinese as pendatang/bangsa-asing both directly and indirectly, and printing lies about Teresa Kok & Muslim prayers…
