Military chief mixing in politics? ; Umno & death threats

The Star:

Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal has proposed that the Government take stern action against those who stoke racial sentiments.

He said racial issues should not be raised as it could create chaos and disorder.

“Racial issues are the most feared by security forces as they could lead to chaos. They are a security threat,” he said at the Wanita Umno Hari Raya contribution presentation to the Armed Forces and the police at the Putra World Trade Centre here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the same event, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said street politics is under control and peace is upheld.

An eminently disconcerting conflation of politics and the military. Honouring our servicemen is all well and good, but this mix of Wanita Umno, the military, the police, race and politics should raise the eyebrows of any conscientious Malaysian.

Make no mistake general’s job is to give proposals on international security threats, not domestic ethnic or political policy.

As for the deputy IGP, perhaps he should pay more attention to his hosts and their northern counterparts:

However, according to eye witnesses present at the press conference, some of Ahmad’s supporters shouted, “sudah lah (enough)” and “bunuh dia (kill her),” at one reporter from an English daily who insisted on asking one more question.

On Friday, Penang opposition leader and state Umno secretary Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said that one reporter from a Chinese daily should be blamed for twisting Ahmad’s words.

“What was written may lead to a racial riot. If such a thing happens, he is the first person that should be shot,” said Azhar.

O_O

I would support legal action, but like Malik Imtiaz, firmly reject any use of the ISA.

    Hi Nat,

Ever thought of changing the background of your blog to white instead of black?

Always have problem reading your blog because of the dark background.

Hope it’s not too much to ask.

Wonder whether the military chief knows what he was saying or is it an extension of somebody playing’ wayang kulit’ behind him. Or someone using military option for personal interest. Wrong time to voice out and giving wrong perception to the rakyat. Or is it part of military strategy of creating fear as directed with intentions. You don’t have to say it openly but you need to walk to PM or DPM office tell them stop it or otherwise……….period. What the military chief is declaring now is , hei! look I am the product of BTN so my boss must be right and has to be protected so that I can jalan lajan cari makan. Mockery!!

I am formerly from ATM.Retire many years back.Never in my 55 years in Malaysia had a Arm Force chief akin to polities eitheir any views given.Low profile look into external affort .
General must have a very good reason to extent his view to polities.
He is duty borne to protect the Nation within and out

  • “What was written may lead to a racial riot. If such a thing happens, he is the first person that should be shot,” said Azhar.

The fiery speeches and actions of those UMNO guys in Penang would not cause racial riots? If there any riots you are the people who start it not a mere reporter.

    Hei Nat,
Of all the persons the C.O.S has come out with something so stupid that it scares the hell of ordinary citizens. Better for him to retire and sit in G.L.C. as makan gaji buta. Who the hell ask for his comment? He better take count of his resources and try to help the hostages in d hands of pirates in Somalia. Don,t play politics to please who ever who placed him
    there.

Now of all I feel our army stinks.
