  • Imagine having to walk to highlight crime
Do we need to stalk to live in a state sublime
When mere talk is worse than a drink of lime
Better classroom white chalk and preventive mime

This walk to highlight the crime problems in the area is good, but as it is, it only highlight the crimes. No action or plan to reduce the crime problems.
This is a good time that action is required, ie we need to put more police boots in, especially the boots walking the beat. The state government could institute another police force on the ground. Let’s call this force the state police, Polis di-Raja Negeri Selangor or Perak Or Penang or any other state. Putting these extra boots on the beat would be much better than walking to highlight the crime problems or having all those gated communities.
The state police should take care of all criminal problems in the state. They should work alongside the PDRM, ie the federal police. The state police should be held accountable to the corresponding state authority. The sole criteria here is to prevent or stop crime from increasing and having more police boots on the ground would certainly help.

i always say, what better way to prevent crime, than by walking through your neighbourhood. this way, the thieves will see how many of you actually stay there, and get scared. also you will get fitter, and more capable of beating up them pesky robbers.

please just make sure that a sufficient number of people walk, as they might get robbed.

on a more serious note, crime everywhere is up. last week, 2 of my friends got carjacked in successive days. i wonder what keadilan will do about the food prices if they were in power.

20 break-ins within 10 days or 2 every day in BU. And BU residents have engaged security guards with their own money. Imagine, if not for the good job done by the BU resident association in coordinating the provision of such services, I realy wonder what BU would be like as far as security is concerned.
By the way, BU residents, when was the last time you see a patrol car in your area?

  • LeisureMan

Some time organized activities like these helped to cover a hidden agenda – make use of the VIPs and politicians then introduce lucrative “Security Fees” – charged to the residents of course ! Before you know it your non-gated home get converted into “gated-community” – illegally !

  • I was there just 12 hours ago? Contrary to all the pessimism about the walk….or even the talk…or the crime prevention ‘measures’.

I agree with our ADUN – YB Elizabeth Wong, that its about fostering a relationship within the neighbours, ppl around us. I live in BU and honestly, we dont know our neighbours, most of use hardly care to notice anything about each other….Today’s STAR was criticizing singaporeans for being a selfish uncaring society….what about us? we’re the same…in my opinion.

The thieves or ‘high-tech chinese robbers’ as we call them here in BU, are not afraid to rampantly rob us (ie 20 in 14 days) because they know they will be dealing with only one household, not a whole community hunting them…..so why the walk???

For those whose into economics, we’re walking to send a signal, a ‘threat’ back to those whose been hurting us, don’t mess with BU residents or you’ll surely pay, cos u rob one of us…the whole lot of us will come after you…the police, our MPs, our ADUNs, our security guards (tq en.sekiu 4 waving at me when i drive home from mamak at 2am).

We must work together, for out ‘threat’ to be credible, don’t you think?

  • In response to LEISUREMAN…I dunno where you got the ‘idea’ that the security fee we’re paying is lucrative? because the only way I can conclude it to be more expensive that it ought to cost in the 1st place is because of FREE RIDERS like you.

There are 400 houses in my area, and only 1/2 of them pay….which is quite a nominal fee of RM30 a month = RM12 000 for 50% subscription. Start doing your math brother. I am not part of the committee, so I dont really know how much it costs, but I’m sure those BU-m gates aren’t cheap, and the guards’ salaries too…And those stickers, flyers, banners, plastic cards on ur gate, organising meetings to get ignorant ppl to get ‘involved’…..all these is money spent not on the security itself, but ‘developing’ the security cooperation of the area too…..

Our area rep told us that by just increasing payability to 80% we can have even electronic key card systems too…(that is another debate all by itself)….but seriously, the extra cash wont be lucrative in any sense to a committee of like at least 10 reps managing the funds?? Their house installments prolly cost way more…

  • correction RM6K a month on 50th subscription…..RM12K is if 100% of the houses pay…

and to leisureman again….i dun think u will want to live in a ‘non-gated community’ if your local police station is only 84men strong for 500 000 ppl?

I’m trying to erupt an argument….just think its injustice done to the BU rep ‘uncles’ in our area who work so hard to keep us safe

  • sorry correction again…I’m NOT tying to erupt an argument…=)

  • I am a foreigner and is renting a house in Bandar Utama. I am amazed at all this talk about home security. Shouldn’t it be the responsibility of the government to look after the security of the nation and its citizens? The security fee may seem small to some but big to others. However the issue should not be about money but the safety and security of the people. If a life is lost, it can never be recovered.

  • I fully agree with you Pennyloo. Since the Police are not able to do a good job looking after us, we have to do it ourselves. I see no other choice.

From what I learnt from a committee member, something like RM800,000 annually is collected from residents of Bandar Utama to pay private security firms to do guarding and patrolling duties so that the residents can have at least some peace of mind as to the security and safety of their loved ones and their homes.

Unfortunately, in a voluntary scheme like this, there will always be the free riders. Undeniably, a large percentage are tenants, not houseowners. Still, a criminal is not going to pick and choose who to rob or which house to break in.

Btw, on a different note, I hope the administrator of this site can change the black background to a lighter colour for easier reading.

I am resident of BU3. There are still plenty of break in / snatch cases happening daily. For the free riders, they are just finding excuse of not helping the community by paying fee by complaining about the security company and committee member.

I am not a committee member but I joined them before for the walk to collect the security fee – you will get all kind of excuses and some don’t even want to see / talk. Some will switch off the door bell. Some just peep from the windows. Some said my husband not at home. Some said my husband is sleeping. Some said my husband told me cannot pay – we do not want to join. Some said we never join before lah. One said ‘I am the security’. Some said I have dogs at home to take care of my house. Some said I was robbed before and the security company never compensate us. Now I installed alarm system and it’s safe for me. Some said we will see how you all do – if there is improvement then we pay LAH. Some said I am just renting house only. The owner suppose to pay.

The committee are not paid for this and they are just trying to help each other to create a better place to live as they are living at the same area too. They are not begger coming to beg for money – it’s for our own safety.

I really thankful to the committee members who are still working hard to improve the security of our area despite the fund collected are quite limited.

Hi. The crime rates are extremely high these days. Its pretty scary living at our homes at this current moment. Why are the police force not doing anything about it? THese crimes are not reported in the papers as well. We need a fast and concerted effort to erradicate crime, which at the moment is getting very out of hands.
