Penang cops losing their heads?
I’m very unhappy about the recent arrests at anti-ISA protests that also called for proper medical attention towards Uthayakumar.
Besides the usual reasons, it appears to Penang police were acting particularly unreasonably. Malaysiakini:
A police team from the Pulau Tikus police station arrived at the demonstration scene at 11.10am and told the demonstrators to abandon the rally and disperse from the area.
However, Ong and Satish were arrested in Gurney Plaza, about 500 metres away, after they had left the venue.
Azam claimed the duo failed to adhere to police instruction to abandon the ‘illegal’ rally and leave the area.
Hadn’t they already left??
Meanwhile, rights group Suaram activists Lau Shu Shi and Teh Chun Hong were detained after they lodged police reports at the city police headquarters in Jalan Patani, Georgetown at 2.45pm. Lau and Teh had been remanded and are expected to brought to court to be formally charged tomorrow.
The Suaram duo however were detained after Lau lodged a police report against police harassment at the rally.
Lau had just came out from the Jalan Patani police station premise when an unidentified police officer raised his voice against her. When Lau told the officer to lower his voice and show respect to her, a shouting match ensued between them. She was then taken under the police custody for questioning.
Teh was also detained for recording the Lau incident. His video camera was also seized.
:| That’s too much. That cop probably got all nervous and insecure and started shouting. No cop has any justifiable reason to be yelling at someone who has lodged a police report like that.
Stop the oppression, free the ISA detainees and Lau and Teh, and give Uthayakumar some proper treatment!

The Police in Malaysia thinks they are above law. It is no more Polis Di-Raja Malaysia (PDRM), but Polis Raja Di-Malaysia (PRDM). Another product of the brain dead UMNO goons. People beware, the UMNO led BN govt has unleased these police dogs to bite anyone with impunity.
too much indeed!! can you believe that?? they were arrested for lodging a police report!!!! this is insane!!!
another case of double standard by the penang police. nobody was arrested (or even hauled up) during the umno protest on 14 march!!
Police are too busy barking up the wrong tree. Meanwhile, a mother gets stabbed right in her home & a 13-yr old gets kidnammped on her way to school.
Both stories in TheStar today, page 3.
Come on, are the police still on BN’s payroll?. The enforcement agencies of the State should be under the control of the State. Things are happening in the state and the state authorities should be responsible for any eventualities. I am holding the ruling government of the state accountable for all the misdeeds. Can the state government of Penang control the enforcement agencies under her jurisdiction?. The Penang government still behave like they are in the Opposition. Wise up! You are the governing body of the state, thus act and perform like one.
nat: ah, but the entire police force is centralised and answers only to Bukit Aman, which answers only to Putrajaya. no one else controls the cops. so yes, technically, the cops are still on BN’s (or rather the rakyat’s, should be) payroll
Oh no… Did we just hire gangsters into our police force? Perhaps it’s time that we open up the Common POLICE Course and more LLB course to train them in matters of law and human rights. Hear me Zaid?
Just a thought about the state of our police force (or the force of our police state). Police appear to have less and less time for crime solving these days. I’m just wondering, as a taxpayer who had 2 breakins in a house I rented in the kelang valley in the spate of 5 months, how effective our Royal Malaysian Police are at solving reported crimes. Is there a way to audit the ratio of the number of reported crimes to the number of crimes brought to court? What about violent crimes? How many of these which have been reported have been successfully prosecuted (i.e with a conviction). How much money has been spent on upgrading equipment for the police in the past 5 years?
