Figures reveal advising PM = lucrative business

Malaysiakini:

According to Zulkifli Noordin (PKR-Kulim Bandar Baru), Mahathir – who is also the ex-premier – is being paid RM180,000 per year while Abdullah’s advisers Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (women and social development affairs) and Abdul Hamid Othman (religious) received RM404,726 and RM549,675 respectively.

The figures were revealed in two separate parliamentary written replies to Zulkifli from the premier earlier this week.

Wah. Was losing Lembah Pantai a blessing in disguise? That’s a crapload of money.

Also, religion is worth about 37% more than women :P :)

But hang on, it’s not only advisors to the PM that are getting paid plenty. Hantam PM mercilessly also got RM 180k, lol!

I’m shocked that a woman affairs advisor get paid RM 34,000 a month???? That is unbelievable – i.e. more than what a MP gets in a month, more than even a GM or CEO of a medium company gets in a month? What is going on, is her job so crucial to the country’s economy? Oh, i forgot, the BN gov’t has the right to frivolously spend our taxpayers money

Seems to me an adviser is a ‘ 2nd Minister without Responsibility’ and without authority. Somewhat akin to the redundant FT Minister, possibly just as effective. It is a reflection of how this small country is administered, with patronage and political ties taking precedence over competency and efficiency. The public purse is for those in power to use and misuse. No one cares to explain to the tax paying public , who bear the burden of such unnecessary costs, why advisers are needed when federal ministers, mayors and other civil servants are supposed to do the same job. Are we trying for a world record here? Biggest Cabinet population? Largest civil service? Based on a population of some 26 million, we just might make it .

  • I am surprised to learn of the scale of the payout.

BTW, what is the annual pay of the PM and the ministers? Could not google for any answer.

Besides all the much larger “fringe benefits” that BN leaders usually get, I just think these sums are just very high by Malaysian public sector standard.

  • For my family ...

This is throwing away the rakyat’s money for rubbish.

  • lo

and that, dear folks, i suspect… is but only the tip of the iceberg…

  • Let us NOT waver. Let us ALL, one way or another, push forward together. The March 8 election was a ray of light for all malaysians. This ray of light must be broadened until ALL malaysians is free of the greed of those in power. Greedy politicians must be kick out of the malaysian power structure.
