Nik Nazmi: A Newer, Better Breed of Politics

Today is blog about Nik Nazmi day :) Nik is KeADILan’s candidate for Seri Setia, a state seat within the parliamentary constituency of Kelana Jaya. (Nik has an awesome website you should really check out at niknazmi.com :)

I’ve sat next to Nik at work for a good chunk of my time with KeADILan and know him well as a colleague and a good friend.

One of the best of the many things I like about Nik is his principles. After many a long conversation, I’m proud to say that my friend has all the right ideas about politics: about integrity, about the for a Malaysia that is truly free from racial division and divisive politics, about accountable, transparent and good governance.

I’m happy to testify that his opinions are genuine and heartfelt. You couldn’t find an individual who is any further from being an Umnoputera, or someone who has a deeper respect for multiculturalism.

He’s also what I consider a real Muslim – one who holds fast to the best Muslim principles of justice, respect for other religions and a commitmentn to human rights.

I’m a big fan of Nik’s maturity and attitude. In politics, this is saying a lot.

We work in a high pressure work environment but I have never known his temper to flare or for him to lose his cool. You have no idea how rare that is in this line of work.

He reads like a maniac (much like DSAI) and is a much smarter man than me (again, this is saying a lot, haha :)

His insights and ability to understand social and political nuances is thus of the highest level. He can always see the bigger picture and has that ever important ability to differentiate what is meaningful and important, and what is not.

I won’t forget either, all he did (along with sooo many others I’m eternally grateful for) while I was in prison.

I really like Nik as a person too. Personable, hospitable, patient, ever accomodating (can’t tell you how much this means). I’ve lost count how many times he’s gone out of his way to give me a ride, or went through some inconvenience to make my life a little easier :) He’s just a good guy to be around :)

I’m really excited that he’s running. The time has come to help return integrity to a thoroughly tarnished leadership, and put gentlemen and patriots just like Nik into public office. To help, e-mail Faisal or reach him at 019 223 2002
