Dollah fumbles on CNN: This is Malaysia’s ‘great leader?’

I tell you, today’s protest put me in a foul and unhappy mood. More on that later (see suarakeadilan.com and Malaysiakini if you’d like some news).

But this, oh this lightened things up.

Can you imagine what the world thinks of us? That we are a nation led by….. this?

Plane flying overhead? More likely he dozed off for a minute there :P

Perhaps a blow by blow when a transcript comes out.

Two posts on this in a row is purely coincidental, but just for contrast, here’s a little of what the alternative Malaysian PM sounds like on international media (there are probably even better ones, may change these later).

  • For my family ...

We seriously need to vote out these bunch of UMNO-BN clowns. It is beyond embarrassing watching Badawi, its painful actually.

50 years enough la of UMNO-BN. Lets give Anwar, Nik Aziz & Kit Siang a chance for 5 years and see how they will lead Malaysia.

  • Thanks for sharing.

Anyway, I can see you in bad mood yesterday. Anyway, get some crackdown photos here.

  • haha… what a plug :) i keep linking to your blog from med’s gchat nic…

  • Also looks/sounds like he’s reading off a teleprompter. AAB’s rate of English is also significantly off from the reporter’s, that I believe the former couldn’t understand the latter. Content-wise however… nothing new lah… the usual… whatever you want to call it ;)

May be there is a medical reason like diabetes. If not, the it is clear that this UM graduate in Islamic Studies should consider retirement and let someone more competent lead BN and UMNO.

Well there should have been an interpreter present during the interview as this not so eloquent Prime Minister hasn’t quite understood what questions were put forward to him. Mr. Anwar Ibrahim is truly the one to lead MALAYSIA, a charismatic and intellectual leader respected both in Malaysia as well as globally. Hope to see a change in Malaysia for the good of democracy and transparency, in the coming polls. God Bless.

  • man, i am ashamed to tell people he’s my PM. His answers totally not answering the questions. ‘A plane is passing by….’ LOL!!!!

  • Wah!
Our PM has picked up an accent overnight in Davos!
Anyway, he looks like a farmer in the cap …..

This dumbo could not lead a bunch of old kampung folks let alone Malaysia. He is like a fish out of water when rubbing shoulders with world leaders and intellects. He has an IQ of 2! and an attention span of a flea

  • My cat is far more eloquent and impressionable.

  • seeker of truth

    Looks like “Andy Cap’
but sounds like AAB talking crap!

What kind of leader does Malaysia have?
He couldn’t lead the way out of a open cage!

  • Well-meaning bystander

    Here’s my take.

First video: Abdullah was evasive and successfully so. That at least you can give him credit for. (The unkind way to read this is that he is ’slow’, though one must allow for the fact that this was intended.) CNN made him look stupid by (a) showing Hindraf footage while he was talking about how everyone is generally happy and doing well and (b) juxtaposing questions about the poor in his country and the poor in the Muslim world.

Second video: As a well-meaning bystander, I have this piece of advice for Anwar Ibrahim: he should be careful about participating in ‘academic’ discussions such as this — they do not put him in a good light. In this clip, note that Anwar does not answer any question posed to him. He also parrots Kishore Mahbubani half the time without seeming to understand what he is saying. And he makes wild leaps…lots of statements side by side that have nothing to with each other (or the question), giving the impression that the evasiveness may be a general lack of strategy rather than deviousness which might at least be admired if nothing else.

In short, Anwar is about rhetoric over substance. I would not say there is no substance — there is not just not enough for a discussion like this, which for a politician is COMPLETELY FINE. I merely beg to suggest that he consider carefully not engaging further in such forums. This is not the first time he has…how to put it gently…revealed the lack of substance in a more ‘academic’ forum and this has not gone unnoticed. Anwar does well with kampung ceramahs and even slightly higher-brow talks. He should stick to those.

Final snide remark, perhaps: the Al-Jazeera ‘moderator’ did not do a good job. This was more a firing of random questions in unpredictable directions rather than moderation of a discussion where one would expect some pitting of interlocuters against each other, some provocative questions, actually listening to what the panellists are saying… etc. :-P

    Question Nat,

Is it 100% sure that DSAI is not allowed to contest in this coming GE before April?

Can he contest in an by-election soon after this GE in case of a vacancy becoming available?

Lacking death among winning MP’s, is there any opposition MP that is willing to vacate his/her post for DSAI to contest soon after April?

    Just an unkind thought.

nat: yes, yes, yes :) it’s not an unkind thought at all :)

It would be great if Anwar is Elected MP.

It would be fantastic if he can speak in the Parliment.

It would mean an injection of new Good Force in the Parliment.

I think we have to change the government as too many “NATO” (No action talking only) around. We need people that have action speak louder than words.
