update, 21/1 – Not that I can read Chinese, but Eli sent by this piece by Wong Chin Huat, whose views are usually insightful. Check it out, and feel free to spread!
Umno cannot be the DAP’s political arch nemesis and a vote for the DAP cannot be translated as a vote against Umno, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said.
Can it?
What I do know is this: a vote for MCA is DEFINITELY a vote for Umno.
The only way this could possibly be untrue is if MCA has ever proven itself to be a credible check against Umno.
I think no one outside the party could ever they’ve done anything of the sort. Remember post- Hisham and the keris?

I took some time to extensively spell out how and why MCA is completely selling out not only Chinese interests, but Malaysian ones.
At the heart of any BN component party is the fear that Umno cannot be defeated. This is loser talk, and one that has led to a lot of bending over over time.
It’s true that a party like DAP does not contest in any Umno seats, but it’s part of a credible opposition and government-in-waiting (See Tony’s budget).
Only KeADILan and Pas are in a position to challenge Umno directly, but rest assured, to vote for MCA, MIC or Gerakan is to reward Umno and perpetuate 2nd class citizenry for not only Chinese, Indians and others, but also for under-priviliged Malays.
ps- RPK has an interesting, if unforgiving, piece on similar issues.

Yes, indeed a vote for MCA, GERAKAN, MIC and other BN components is a vote for UMNO. UMNO determines all for BN. Others have no say whatsoever. A good example was MIC chief Samy Vellu in India said the government in Malaysia had no evidence that the Hindraf 5 had terrorist connections, and yet Samy Vellu says nothing back home let alone request the govt. to release the Hindraf 5 detained under ISA. The 5 were detained under the assumption that they had links with the Tamil Tigers.
Similarly MCA , GERAKAN practically did nothing to defend non-Bumi blood from spilling.
Come 12th GE , vote for any party but BN coalition and you wont be wrong.
Indeed, BN is UMNO. Every other party is not just subservient but really add to the numbers, the arrogance and the might of UMNO! A vote for UMNO is a vote down the drain for Malaysia.
Yes, resoundingly so. The MCA, MIC, and the Gerakan and others are there to keep up the numbers. It is not a partnership of equals. Otherwise, Hishamuddin al-Keris buruk won’t dare use the keris to say “Up yours!!”.
Malaysians are fully aware of the situation, but they must now show their desire for change by voting the PKR-PAS-DAP alternative. Give us just 5 years and you will see change towards good governance, and great times for Malaysia again.
Perhaps we should talk about the Petronas selling oil on 5year/10 year forward contracts at something like USD30 per barrel when the price was in that region. (to be verified).
Which was once publicised as one reason why Petronas-owned MISC bought more tankers (for the shipments).
We need Petronas to come clean on these forward contract sales, and if there is built-in-mechanism to increase prices at market value.
This is substantiated by Najib`s statement that oil reserves will be outed by 2011. The previous estimate was up to 2015. Does this mean that 4 years reserves have been `pumped` already to feed the BN?
