Proton dumped by Volkswagen & General Motors

Just felt like combating the spin a bit. Can’t help but feel that one primary reason for the breakdown in talks (see Malaysiakini) was that Malaysia just isn’t as good a place to do business as it once was.

Corruption, an undependable judiciary, questionable preferential policies, ridiculously inflated vendor prices.. Who can blame them.

And what’s all this talk about Proton doing so well? If it’s in such great shape, how come no one wants to do business with us?

Reminds me of the Muslim car they wanted to put together. I’ll admit that it’s a great gimmick, but it sounds like that’s exactly what it is.

A compass and space for the Holy Quran and a prayer mat are all well and good. But a real Muslim car is one made by a company and in a country that extols the best of Muslim virtues: integrity, fairness and justice for all.

Malaysia’s Proton? I doubt it.

  1. The decision was made because

    1) Management knew if the deal were signed, they were out and nowhere but down career wise.

    2) Election is coming. Badawi knows the opposition will spin it like crazy especially in the heartland and he need the Malay votes especially MCA/MIC areas.

  2. aiyah proton so great. giving RM26,999 discount on the 20 year old saga, a gen-2 with a backside, they discontinued selling the waja in singapore, as now we are sending the car i drive as taxis to some middle east country. my waja is now not only a police car in malaysia and uk, a taxi in klang valley and the world’s most facelifted car but still looks the same in its 7 years of existence!!
proton, cam mana nak maju? i do hope they really have turned the corner and not because of the promotion of the saga and the sales of the persona.

do have a look at the new saga replacement model on paul tan.org page called the proton-BLM (base line model) which supposedly will hit the streets by Feb 2008.

but they selling the 20 year old stock saga to the masses.

buyer beware man, buyer beware. Proton and Malaysia, dua dua also boleh!

  3. Nat,

Give proton a chance and lets see how will it perform in 2008. Must we surrender everything we have & kowtow to these big corporations?

Those who are not interested in Proton cars pilihlah kereta kegemaran you all ….why bantai Proton? My wira is already 15 years old & still running well…no problemo. Service & spare parts murah, what more you want for a poor guy like me.

    cheers.

  4. Dear Nat, you dunggu fella, if it’s not because of Proton, you would be driving a real car instead of your 15 years old out model/out dated wira lah with the same price you paid.
You have been sleeping all these years kah, Proton sucks your money also you praise them like hell?

    nat: I praised Proton? who’s the one sleeping?… :)

  5. The Muslim car concept is not really a bad idea but an easy idea that can be implemented by other car manufacturers by introducing custom accessories such as the compass and the extra compartment that are described by the various web resources. More work have to be done to revive the glory of Proton.
After reading the history of Proton, I felt that the car maker has not been following its intended path which was built upon other successful Japanese car makers such as Honda and Toyota( Yes, Japanese cars were despised in the 60s and 70s) The Japanese took years to innovate and improve upon what they had at the time and the rest is history!!
At this moment, as a Malaysian, I really like this project to succeed. We will definitely need a defined plan on where this car manufacturer is going to be in the long run. The car manufacturer should really do more research on the direction of the auto world today(I.E, hybrid cars). In addition, more research and development on how to improve the car efficiencies is essential.
In summary, I think the million dollar question for Proton in the long run is “How hungry they are?”. If Proton is able to follow a good plan to success, I believe that “Malaysia Boleh! ” will definitely echo in the minds of the citizens of the World.

  6. Persona: Our Pride and Joy.

Let me change that for you.

    PROTON: OUR HUMILITY AND SORROW!

I LOST MY MONEY INVESTING IN THEIR SHARES!

NOW GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY PROTON! TAK NAK PROTON!

  7. shall we question why people can’t afford protons to begin with? i don’t want to ask “why are you so poor, ali?” instead, i want to ask “why do you think you are poor, ali?”

economy feel good i thought? so what does it all boil down to? think about it.
