Khairy, Noraini: The only way up is through hate
So many disgusting things at Umno Assembly, where to start? Thankfully there’s a lot to draw on from the blogosphere.
YB Lim spotted this (he spots everything) in Malaysiakini:
“Today is the first time the Umno president’s speech is not being read by the masses because a particular ethnic group controls the distribution line of newspapers and they are on holiday,” he said.
So blatant. Yet so typical of Umno. With these morons in charge, how on God’s green earth can we move away from a racialised Malaysia?
Everything is race to them, and once again, they have proven that Indians are the favourite kicking boys of Umno.
And YeinJee puts it well:
It’s not like the Hindus have chose to celebrate Deepavali during UMNO General Assembly, it’s UMNO who chose to have their annual assembly on Deepavali instead… now, who’s fault is it that the speech was not being read on time?
All this from Khairy’s mouth too. And I was shocked and eww’ed-out when Ku Li had this to say:
“They are not looking for favours. They are educated and proud people. They are looking for change. I have confidence in them,” he said.
“But people like Khairy (Jamaluddin, Umno Youth deputy chief) are few. I hope Umno will attract more of such people.”
Another brilliant one via Malaysiakini:
Zaleha: The (AirAsia) provocative uniform must be changed to something reflective of Eastern values and which complies with the values of Islam.
Badruddin: I think their skirts are too short.
Zaleha pressed her point further by relating how the uniform had ‘affected’ one of her friends, leading Badruddin to pass another cheeky remark.
Zaleha: She said a flight attendant sat in front of her and she could see her legs, thighs and knees. She was so embarrassed!
Badruddin: Did she see the tunnel? [crowd roars with laughter]

What can I say, I guess crude, demeaning sexism passes as funny in Umno.
Then there was the kononnya pretty Noraini and her vendetta against bloggers and other citizens which included insisting that the government more vigorously use laws that invariably involve torturing people.
I liked Marina Mahathir’s (to whom may I publicly record my undying gratitude - as to so many others - for still having my little pic up there; thanks!!) response to her. Most notably the part where she said they’d met before and that Noraini had seemed bright.
You see, that’s the tragic ‘beauty’ of it in Umno. No matter how smart or educated they seem to be, they look around the party, and discover that the only way up is to be racist, violent, prejudiced bigots. I can’t yet find an explanation as to why there aren’t any decent young people rising up the ranks there :(
Seems it’s the party where you can’t get anywhere unless you’re ready to hate.

You’re right. Every UMNO GA is a hate fest. Instead of figuring out the best ways to bring the party forward into the bloody 21st century, their more concerned with fostering the us versus them mentality.
Hate the people who make noise about the keris.
Hate those buggers who drive big cars that the government is giving petrol subsidy to.
Hate those bloggers who always print lies.
Hate AirAsia’s uniforms (I like it. Don’t change it)
Where’s the love y’all?

[...] All apologies, go jingga I must have wronged a lot of Indian people in the entry “Give ‘em enough dope”, that I decided to slashed out a portion of the said posting that had suggested something to the same undesirable effect here. [...]
