Good for him!
I had the pleasure of dropping Li Tsin off this morning at the Duta courts (where I was remanded, speaking of wrongful detention) – go read her report on Malaysiakini! Excerpts:
Abdul Malek was arrested under the Internal Security Act on the night of Sept 25, 1998 after addressing a demonstration earlier that afternoon in Masjid Negara.
In his suit, he accused the police of severely assaulting him, physically and mentally.
In his statutory declaration, Abdul Malek said he was slapped, kicked and punched, and was hit so hard on the head until he passed out.
He was also stripped naked, forced fed dirty and stinking water and subjected to sexual abuse.
Disgusting.
I’ve met Mr. Malek Husin a number of times, and he’s a pretty good guy. He now works for election watchdog MAFREL.
This is clearly a victory for the reformasi generation and all victims of police abuse.
Good to know there are a few good judges out there. Let’s see if we can fix the rot so that this is the norm, not the exception.
I must say though, I will remain just a teeny bit skeptical until En. Malek sees the colour of that money. So many stunts our evil government might pull, and there’s both the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.
Let’s see which judges get ‘picked’ to hear the likely appeals.
