Lim Keng Yaik and Shahrir: Gerakan/BN’s shrinking integrity

I’m shocked that BN’s supposed paragon of integrity, Gerakan’s Lim Keng Yaik could be so dismissive and tolerant about corruption that burnt to ashes RM 4.6 billion of the rakyat’s money in the PKFZ scandal.

“This is the way of Ipoh Timur. This is a small matter which can be solved, but he made it as though the entire world is falling down,” he said.

A small matter? Shame on you, DS Lim

The fact that countless numbers of Umno and other BN party people were implicated so damningly in this scandal appears to count for nothing. DS Lim’s – as well as Gerakan’s – already shrunken credibility and integrity shrinks a little more…

What a stark reminder that no matter how good your ideals and “principles,” if you stay within the BN framework long enough, corruption seeps deep into your blood, and it becomes accepted a way of life.

And to the cynics who say that corruption really is a way of life in politics, I say bullshit.

The devil you know may be better than the devil you don’t, but that’s only when it’s confirmed that both your choices are devils – which is far from the case in the Malaysian context.

Wanna see another example of how integrity is sidelined in BN?

Lim Kit Siang reports that in response to YB Shahrir Samad’s PAC investigation into PKFZ, Nazri told him to just “shut up.”

That pretty much sums up the attitude of BN towards all who might try to do whatever little bit they can to defend what’s left of Malaysia’s integrity: “shut up”
