I invite you to be well appraised of the rarity of Malay leaders with good Malay credentials stepping up to defend our friend, Wee Meng Chee. I am called to stress the uniqueness of this particular forum in comparison to the 3 others this week, and am inspired on my part to be more mindful of and to speak out on issues affecting the Malay community. I think that’s a good way to do things.

For the record, I must state an unequivocal opposition to taking any legal or punitive action whatsoever towards Sdr. Wee, especially after his sincere apology. Nothing could be more backward and counter-productive, and all threats to do so must be seen in the light of attempted intimidation and arrogant fear-mongering.

Right.

I ended up attending the whole thing to accompany the lovely Li Tsin, who terpaksa cover the thing for Malaysiakini. But I’m glad she seemed to find it alright :) Call me biased, but I think her piece captured the mood very well :)

First up, an inspiring lad whose professionalism as a speaker shows. Amin Idris was suspended from university for writing in Harakkah, and I think is poised to be one of the new pioneers of PAS. At first, he felt very angrily towards Namewee, but in a most interesting evolution, he came to see things in a larger context.

Secondly, our own KeADILan Youth VP, Amiruddin Shaari – eloquent and articulate as always.

Khalid Jaafar – once again brimming over with the intellectual approach.

And the man who let fly with no holds barred (hmm, come to think of it, what on earth does this phrase mean? John is as perplexed as me) Hishamuddin Rais. May not be 100% evident from this clip, I think the crowd found him the most entertaining by far – and that’s saying a lot, for this lot of speakers.

Cool, huh?
