Ijok: Lawan tetap LAWAN!

There is nothing in me but pride in the sweat and blood my colleagues have shed for the cause.

I’ll likely spend the whole of next week doing the detailed analysis that will be extremely important - there are a lot of things to reveal.

But first, I’ll need to rest a little bit. Hope you’ll come back soon!

Never give up! Never Surrender!

Ijok: BN violence and terror vs. justice for the people

My comp = virus infected. Me = exhausted for all the wrong reasons. Proper analysis = after 28th. For now =

Things are reaching a boil, and now BN is so scared of losing that they’ve begun to lose their cool and resort to desperate violence and lies.

BN is stooping to truly nasty tactics. Read Malaysiakini for a physical assault on TS Khalid’s entourage in the field. Read Lau Weng San’s blog and Malaysiakini for how their breaking all our ceramahs up. Read Paul Choo’s account of his assault at the hands of Pemuda Umno.

And (JUST RELEASED) watch this video.

It’s of a group of medical volunteers were screamed at by an Umno man with his Umnohooligans (term courtesy of politikus) who seemed to be going nuts and spewing racism at the top of his lungs.

They’re not just assaulting us physically.

Read Jeff Ooi’s two accounts on how there are people on the Ijok electoral roll who must have been born at the beginning of this century (making them children) or the beginning of the last one (making Ijok the oldest place on earth).

Read all the mainstream press to see how BN is shaken to the core by the swing in the Malay vote, and how they’re pissing themselves silly trying to pick up the pieces. Read politikus to see how DS Zam is so scared of the opposition that he’s trying to extend his power-tripping censorship tactics to the foreign press (God forbid the people themselves be allowed to decide whose views are more truthful).

I smell fear.

They’re going to throw the kitchen sink at us in these last few days. Expect spies ‘within’ PKR to provoke the police into sparking physical confrontations. Expect even more censorship. Expect more 100 year old voters. Expect more assaults on our volunteers in the field.

Expect us to never waver from the principles of non-violent struggle. Expect us to be ready with the truth in the face of every lie. Expect us to be strong, expect us to be steadfast.

And expect us to win.

MIC threatens NGO Youth4Change in Ijok (updated)

Update 7.45pm - See Malaysiakini Video, Malaysiakini story, and Brian Yap’s first-hand account. Shame on MIC and BN, shame.

*

From Ronnie Liu’s blog:

I was informed by Lee Khai Loon of Youth for Change that his team (some 40 of them) was threatened by the MIC Cameron Highlands MP Devamani when they were doing a house-to-house visit in Ijok. He warned them that they must leave Tuan Mee Estate immediately or “their safety will not be guaranteed”.

Will try to get more info on this.

Khir Toyo: Only a Malay can represent Malays

Via Malaysiakini:

Khir (Toyo) also gave assurances to the Ijok Malay voters that he would personally take care of the Malays in the state constituency should BN retained the seat.

He said he would be the ‘Malay representative’ for the seat.

Earlier the state Umno leader had said he would adopt the constituency if BN won the by-election.

“If there are any Malay problems, you can come and see me, I will settle it. I will be the Malay representative here, your representative will be the Selangor Menteri Besar,” he told the crowd.

Sorry… what was that? Malay representative for the seat?

Err.. Why? Can’t Parthiban represent the Malays? Is he not good enough, or not up to the job? Isn’t that kind of thinking just a little…. racist?

TS Khalid is out there to represent everyone - regardless of ethnicity, social class, etc. It looks like the BN candidate isn’t planning on doing the same.

Oh, and just out of curiousity, is DS Ong Ka Ting going to be the ‘Chinese representative’ for the area? :P Could the ridiculuous hipocrisy in accusing PKR of racism be any more clearly evident?

DS Khir On the Opposition:

“They make all sorts of allegations and attacks, that is because they are not afraid of death. If people are afraid of death, they won’t dare to do such thing.”

Whoa, is that a death threat?

Okok, perhaps I took it a little out of context. He seems to have been talking about the afterlife. But I leave it to my religious friends, Muslim and otherwise, to decide whether corruption-ridden DS Khir has more to fear in the afterlife or whether we do.

If this old (but looking young again) dentist thinks he’s gonna scare us, or believes he can paint us as the sinners, I think he’s got another thing coming.

BN’s pot calling the PKR kettle racist?! + Longer term thoughts on breaking Barisan

I’m sorry the photostream has temporarily stopped, as I fell sick on Friday night and have been recovering at home (a process facilitated almost entirely by politikus :) Planning to be back in the field tomorrow.

Freelunch, however, has been doing some truly excellent coverage at the scene, and I strongly recommend her site for some good insights :)

*

I did however want to respond to the most recent truly ridiculous allegations BN has been making.

A bunch of their leaders basically accused PKR of being racist.

O_o ?!?!

Looks like desperation to me.

I’ve said it only a million times, that a polity divided along racial lines will invariably create a society that is divided along racial lines, and is in essence rascist (and please don’t give me any bullshit about the insignificant Gerakan being multiracial or anything like that, choke choke :). And what is Barisan if not a polity divided along racial lines?

Malaysia is fast running out of time to reject racial politics once and for all, and take the brave and entirely necessary step forward into non-ethnic politics.

At its core, there are no racial agendas in KeADILan, only national ones.

BN is well aware that its racial politics are fast going out of fashion. Why else would they be so petrified of giving any voice but theirs space in the media (I read B.Harian and Utusan today and almost fainted), or throw millions upon millions into a small Selangor town, or accuse what is easily the single most multi-racial party in Malaysia of racism?

*

On that note, and since everyone’s all politically fired up these days, let’s think a little bit about breaking the Barisan hold.

We all know that only Umno is of any significance. The other component parties have so often and sooooo accurately called nothing but head-nodding office-boys, full of outmoded racist ideals, which wouldn’t even be as bad if they could at least defend them effectively.

This could be seen to leave people like PKR two choices.

1. Gun solely for Umno, knowing full well that no component party would be stupid enough to fight to reinstate Umno’s hegemony which we all know they (except their rolling-in-cash leaders) secretly hate (but then again, you never know with these hopeless flers…).

2. Attempt to hack away at the component parties first, knowing that Umno cannot really rule without their machais like MCA and MIC.

Personally, I’m as of yet undecided as to which of these may prove the more effective strategy, but I’m sure we will be fighting it out on both fronts for now.

I have little doubt that the grassroots of MCA, MIC, etc know that they would be better off under a PKR-led coalition, than a racist, corrupt and supremacist Umno.

Of course, the leaders of these machai component parties have faaaaaar too much vested interests ($$$$) to want to rock the boat, in effect selling out the future of our beloved country.

Have vision people, have vision! Make change happen, don’t let these decepticons trick you into believing you can’t change anything - YOU have the power! (but only if you register to votelah, go! quickly!)

Umno/Barisan knows their time is up, and that their days are numbered. Do you?

flash: TS Khalid and blogger/photographers attacked by Umno Youth in Ijok!!

Update 7.30pm, from Malaysiakini that quoted Jeff Ooi:

Ooi said the injured photographer, who declined to be named, was later hit by a water bottle hurled through a half-open car window when trying to inch away from the venue after being surrounded.

“A person in a Pemuda BN uniform threw the water bottle which smashed into the face of my friend. The impact caused his glasses to break, cutting the area below the eye.

“It was from a close distance. We were basically surrounded… he now requires medical treatment,” said Ooi.

He also claimed that a member of the mob also attempted to grab their cameras in the car but failed.

Ooi confirmed that he had pictures of the incident, but added that it would not be distributed to the press.

Looks like there’ll be no photos :( But we should respect the wishes of that other photographer.
*

Full details in a story I just posted on the keADILan website.

Shame, shame, shame!! >:(

Leaving a restaurant that was next to an Umno Youth operations center at about 3pm, these hooligans started surrounding the cars, heckling and went so far as to kick the vehicles.

Failing in their kurang ajar attempt to grab cameras belonging to the photographers, bottles were thrown, and one went through an open window to hit the photographer, breaking his glasses and causing lacerations under his right eye.

I expect you will be hearing things first hand with pictures soon.

Shame, shame, shame.

I knew BN was scared, but it’s a little surprising to see how desperate they’ve become. Having no one who supports their ideologies and corrupt ways, the have to rely on hiring freakin’ gangsters to shore up their numbers. See what happens then?

Updates as I get them.

Ijok Nomination: Pictures debunk the spin

Are we Opposition people but a bunch of hooligans? Lemme try to let the pics (from the full set of pics put up earlier; btw, politikus hosts all these pics, thanks!!) do the talking.

(Pics from door-to-door campaigning and handsome/pretty party people chronicled below )

We just started off as a friendly, well-supported, walk - stopping to say hi to some folks:

Then, because the organisers were useless, once we reached the top of the hill, we found ourselves having to wade through a mass of BN supporters, who had completely blocked off the path:

We had to walk through some of those famous ‘Hardcore’/Scorpion Pemuda Klang flers:

They were at Machap too, remember?

The front guard of our procession went through, and I along with it, but then suddenly I turned back and was like: “Aik?? What happened to the rest of them?!” TS Khalid was still caught in the melee :( It seems Khairy himself was causing a ruckus and holding things up.

We couldn’t see much, everyone was struggling to get a shot:

Then this Pemuda Umno guy gave Shamsul Iskandar a hard time when he tried to get back to our leaders. I admired Sam’s (Shamsul) calm under fire, but this other guy kept yelling and was really agitated. Sam looks like he was trying to calm him down :P :)

It took an outrider to get those BN guys to do something as simple as make way for our candidate to get through. Can you imagine DS Wan Azizah having to be in the middle of all this? >:( And were they trying to make us arrive too late at the polling station?

In the end however, despite the harassment, our level heads and Justice/Keadilan prevailed, and Tan Sri made it through safely :)

Sadly, this period of calm was short lived. These FRU guys, under goodness knows what orders, refused to let Sam and DS Wan Azizah through to the polling station - ?!?!

These much better shots are from Freelunch:

(That’s Kak Wan in the pink tudung - being pushed into riot police! >:( )

And this cowboy started pointing his tear gas launcher around :| Coulda killed somebody!

On the other end, our supporters were being heckled by our Hardcore Klang friends (Look for the scorpion. I stupidly missed a photo-opp of one of them making particularly lewd gestures, sigh..)

who were then replaced by these ‘i’m trying damn hard to look scary you mofos, so err.. be scared! quick!’ special branch flers. Round Brown perhaps? :P :)

By popular demand, here are a few more Khairy shots. Please don’t associate him with fellow Oxfordian Tony Pua, who is a much better man :)

Khairy Jamaluddin

Khairy Jamaluddin

Semangat wei :) I’m almost as scared as those SB flers :)

This is a good a point as any to talk about DS Hishamuddin’s: PKR likes to provoke, says Hisham

Only one appropriate response to that, really:

Then there was the throwing stuff incident. Any accusations that PKR was responsible for that fracas are absolutely baseless. But I do agree that the entire altercation was shameful and regrettable. There’s no way of telling if it wasn’t some SB’s or undercover agents who started the whole thing.

It was still raining then, but afterwards, the sun came up and things calmed down again. Most of us just hung out and waited for the nomination to be announced:

Here’s Tian in his wet t-shirt contest :)

Nominees were announced, people were happy, and we started the trek back home without incident:

More warm PKR faces below :)
