little points: police brutality close to home, abdullah around town, unindependent independents?

Police brutality cuts pretty close to home for me :( An assistant superintendant (ASP) was charged with assault that took place in Brickfields and TTDI.

I’m glad the charge has been levelled; the victims were an engineer and a project manager. I’m just hoping that’s not the only reason this case made it to the courts whereas those of M Vijaya and K Suresh remain unresolved :(

The floods are bad and getting worse :( I’m thinking of opening a subdomain on one of my sites just dedicated to floods stuff. What do you think?..

Looks like DS Abdullah needed a new picture to counter the one taken of him in Perth at the height of the floods – the one frontpaging the Star today looked to do the job.

Will still give whatever credit is due to him for finally making it down there, shamefully late though it may be. Would he have gone a boatin’ if not for the Perth scandal?

I tried pretty hard to find the frontpage pic online, but to no avail. However, when I googled ‘abdullah johor’, Google Images gave me this. Totally random, but the connection was some badly needed entertainment.. :)

I was told that DS Abdullah refused to see reporters at some Grand Prix event last night. Was he concerned about this scandal regarding the financing of 9MP? I ain’t got no special info on that right now, but it sure smells fishy.

This Batu Talam business.. The Malaysiakini video showed what just how huge the BN machinery can be – such livery!

I am still quite disturbed about this ‘independent candidate,’ who barely appears independent enough to answer his own questions. Quotes:

What motivates a 21-year-old trader to contest in a by-election?

When this question was posed to Ng Chee Pang, who will vie for the Batu Talam state seat as an independent candidate, he replied: “I like to contest.”

:| Then why was he so quiet yesterday? Doesn’t seem like he’s doing a whole lotta contesting.

Remember my quote from James Wong yesterday? (reproduced below) How horrifying to compare it with statement from the older Mr. Ng:

The independent candidate’s father Ng Kwi Lin had his own rationale for his son’s decision to contest.

“I want to bring business for the people of Batu Talam, if there is a contest, more people will come here,” said Kwi Lin, who is also DAP Pahang treasurer.

That’s the reason he essentially broke ranks with the rest of the people working so hard for change in this country over? Almost singlehandedly undermining the entire boycott?

I may have had a doubt or two about the Opposition boycott myself, but I reckon this is no good.

James Wong on Umno election time business:

.. there is a speculation that Umno is allegedly ‘making arrangements’ to field an independent candidate so that the Batu Talam by-election can proceed. It is not illogical for that to happen because only when there is a contest, there is campaigning and only when there is campaigning, members and supporters of Umno and/or other BN component parties could cari makan as contractors or sub-contractors of mini-projects, advertising agents, writers and printers of propaganda materials, party’s electoral office clerks, door-to-door campaigners, polling and counting agents, drivers of campaign vehicles as well as field suppliers of food and drink, etc. For them to field an ‘independent’ candidate to challenge their own party’s official candidate could be a very lucrative business or profitable investment.
