Malaysiakini is on a roll today. A reader caught hold of an Australian publication that puts PM DS Abdullah in Perth officiating the opening of his brother’s restaurant, during some of the worst of the Johor floods :( :(
According to a report in the Jan 5 edition of the Perth weekly community free paper, Asia Times, Abdullah was in the city to open the ‘Puteri Nasi Kandar’ restaurant on Dec 29.
The restaurant is substantially owned by Abdullah’s brother, Ibrahim, and a Malaysian corporate figure Lim Ewe Jin, according to the report.
Lim, the founder of Lejadi Group which provides water management and privatisation services, is also co-founder of Powertek Bhd, an independent power producer in Malaysia.
Abdullah had made a one-day visit to Johor – the worst-hit state – on Dec 23 after an official visit to Venezuela. He then reportedly left on the same day for Australia for a one-week holiday.
Isn’t that a crying shame? Oklah, in honesty, with all that the PM has(n’t) done in these 3 years, some of us may not be expecting him to be a superman coming to the rescue. But living it up in Perth? :(
And the rest of his cabinet?
Last month, DAP Johor leader Dr Boo Cheng Hau had urged Abdullah to consider sacking ministers who were on vacation during the catastrophe.
Among the ministers reported to be away on holidays were Muhyiddin Yasin (Agriculture and Agro Based Industries), Syed Hamid Albar (Foreign Affairs), Ong Ka Ting (Housing and Local Government), Hishammuddin Hussein (Education), Khaled Nordin (Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development), Chua Soi Lek (Health) and Azalina Othman Said (Youth and Sports). They are also all MPs from the flooded areas.
Sigh.
It’s not too late guys. Show us you care. Step up your flood relief activities. The people who voted you in need help. Don’t abandon them.
Representatives in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak – pleeeeeeeeease don’t make the same mistakes.

[...] Will still give whatever credit is due to him for finally making it down there, shamefully late though it may be. Would he have gone a boatin’ if not for the Perth scandal? [...]
[...] Slow news day prompts Syed Nazri to write about Puteri Nasi Kandar in Penang – somewhat in bad taste, given that this was the Perth restaurant the PM was busy opening while Malaysians and their livelihoods were drowning in some of the worst floods here ever. My original comments here. [...]
Look, this is a OSA matter. You did not hear it from me, ok? DS Abdullah actually went to Johor secretly on one of the RMN submarines. The story about him being in Perth, buying a house there, his brother migrate to Australia because no faith in Malaysia Govt etc are only a smokescreen because we cannot let everyone know that Malaysia has a submarine – damn good when banjir.
haha, hillarious!! bloop bloop :)
