little points: Najib’s NST front page missed earlier, quick kampung berembang update
Sorry, forgot to comment earlier on NST’s frontpage news about the possibility of certain Umno delegates being punished. Well, the notion is to be welcomed I guess; rest assured, I will be more enthusiastic in my praise when proper charges have been filed against the inciters. Welcome, but will be watched. Tony Pua points out that DS Najib’s blaming of ‘inexperienced speakers’ is clearly off the mark.
Addendum 5.42pm: I’m thinking so disjointedly today. It just occured to me point out the irony of DS Najib’s suggested punishments. From Wikipedia:
In 1987, as UMNO Youth Chief, Najib vociferously defended special Malay privileges in a fiery speech featuring the Malay Keris (dagger) and vowed to bathe the Keris with Chinese blood, shortly before the government launched a crackdown on extremist elements termed Operation Lalang. At the same rally, banners were hoisted carrying phrases such as “revoke the citizenship of those who opposed the Malay rulers”, “May 13 has begun” (referring to the May 13 racial riots in 1969), and “soak it (the keris) with Chinese blood”.
Also, quick flash on Kg Berembang: yesterday morning MPAJ tried to demolish the last remaining building in the kampung - a surau where the villagers had been taking shelter, but the villagers succesfully stood their ground and defended the building (via that link, also note some additional contact people for donations for material aid). Good for them! More to come..
