Kampung Berembang lady feeling better, MPAJ Officer who beat her identified

Thanks to Eng Kiat of bolehland.com who helped me realise I was behind the news even in the Berembang case.

Yes, it appears that Cik Norhasliana bt Osman Taat has recovered consciousness and is recovering, Alhamdullilah. Most of you would have read the Malaysiakini article posted last night by now (good on them for keeping tabs) and seen the video interviewing Cik Norhasliana.

If you haven’t, please do. It’s a damning firsthand account of brutality at the hands of FRU and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Officers. She had linked hands with Indian women from the village to form a barrier against the demolition as was rewarded by being slammed with FRU shields and slapped by a MPAJ officer.

In the scuffle’s aftermath, she required CT Scans and Ultrasounds. The bills are estimated at RM 1,000 - RM 2,000. I am hoping Acmar International will volunteer to foot her bill.

A 22 year old girl. As Tony Pua asks, where are the keris-wielders who are so keen to defend the Malays? DS Hishamuddin? Encik Hashim Suboh?

Note: Kampung Berembang has been known to be stalwart Umno supporters. I haven’t heard of any Umno member who has showed up there in the aftermath - anyone care to correct me?

This biadap attitude hasn’t escaped scrutiny. In the same video, Cik Norhasliana’s mother, Pn Norhayati, said that they have identified the MPAJ officer as one Encik Azman.

Encik Azman of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council - kindly prove your innocence or repent, seek forgiveness, and resign immediately for failing to be a decent human being.

Excerpts from the Malaysiakini article:

Some 30 villagers are planning to spend the night at the site of their demolished houses and had set up makeshift shacks and toilets with sheets of zinc and remnants from their windows and cupboards.

“We feel like refugees in our own land,” exclaimed one angry villager.

Meanwhile, Sufa said her loss was around RM40,000. “Whatever that survived the demolition, such as my TV and fridge were ruined in the heavy rain later.”

Sufa also said she could not afford to rent a new place. “I’m living from hand to mouth. Where are those people who are supposed to help us? Where are our elected representatives?”

“This is inhuman. They did not think how it would affect our children,” thundered Jamat Harun, who has been living in the village for 32 years.

“There has been no help at all. We have nothing. If it rains at night, we will have to sleep in the rain,” said the 60-year-old father of two.

Another villager, Sabariah Ayub - who with a dozen other women and children are seeking refuge at the village’s surau - is determined to defend the place of worship from being torn down at all cost.

Developers said they would demolish the wooden structure by the end of the week.

“I will stay here and fight to the end. We are not giving up yet,” stressed Sabariah, while the rest nodded their approval.

  2. As a sign of protest can we get all residents under MPAJ to unite and not pay assessment to MPAJ. Instead the assessment to be contributed to a Trust Fund - appoint Amanah Raya Berhad with the intention of getting homes for the Kg Berembang folks and also initiating legal action against MPAJ and each officer personally, the Selangor state Gov and the MB personally to compensate them for all hardhips.

  3. IT become worst now the situation, have a look Inhuman, cruel, uncivilized?

  4. Nat. Is it possible to bring tourists to Kg. Berembang for them to see the ugly side of our country? Big money, politicians and their goons against the helpless, hapless poor of the city. UMNO should set up containers to house the homeless.
