A damned shame.

A group of NGO people and opposition politicians rallied to Kg. Berembang in Ampang (near Gleneagles Hospital) in solidarity with the villagers whose houses were about to be demolished by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

A section of the Emergency Ordinance that I think was meant for clearing squatters who were supporting Communists was (ridiculously!) used on these poor folk, and the developers / MPAJ wanted to destroy all their homes 5 months before their alternative homes were completed.

When members of civil society tried to stand with these villagers and prevent their homes from being razed to the ground, they were arrested by the police and MPAJ.

Greed breeding cruelty. I’m so angry. Can’t wait to find out who these developers are.

Please see the Suaram post and the CDC/Jerit appeal on this matter, and take 3 minutes to e-mail the officials listed to express your dissatsifaction over the demolitions and the arrests. One of the people arrested is a personal friend of mine :(

    Hey!

Wow — that’s so unreasonable — and so close to home!

I couldn’t find your email on here so I have to leave a comment. Have you noticed that ever since Lim Kit Siang posted his post entitled “Umno GA incendiary rhetoric – setback nation building by decades” his blog has been offline?

I didn’t know you did conflict studies! I should put you in touch with one of my closest friends (she’s in Boston) who did conflict studies at my uni.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the tip-off Mr. K – very suspicious indeed!
