I’m hoping to write a longer piece on this Bangsa Malaysia business stirred up by YAB Dtk Abdul Ghani Othman, so will hold off comments on that for now.

Let me start by continuing to highlight Brendan Pereira’s abject refusal to admit to his plagiarist sins and hide behind the skirts of his bosses – up until it’s Monday and time to blindly bash TDM again. His column even included this weird little blurb:
Caution: those above 18 who do not believe in freedom of speech or dissenting opinions should avoid reading this column.
??? Freedom of speech I believe in friend; freedom to be a lousy, shameless copy-cat I might have a problem with though.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah displays an attitude painfully typical of those in power. By saying good professors do not stay in public universities because they are not paid enough, he demonstrates perfectly the mentality of today’s government that everything can be solved if you throw enough money at it :|
I submit that good brains don’t stay in Malaysia because we don’t recognise talent and ability – choosing to promote compliance and ass-kissing instead; because we openly bash the concept of meritocracy (!); and because we (esp Dr. Nik Mustapha himself) have what could at best be called a casual relationship with the concept of truth an academic integrity. Not high enough salaries indeed. Grrr.

The acquital of Sukma Darmawan Sasmitaat Madja is welcomed, but made under such dubious circumstances. The kiasuness of the government is appalling and shameful.
Knowing their case could only stand up in a kangaroo court, and probably wishing to deny TDM the publicity he would gain from being on the witness stand, the prosecution dropped their case, but did so in a most cowardly fashion – insinuating that it was out of “generousity” and “concern for the public interest,” and maintaing Sukma’s guilt (while too chicken to prove it in a court of law). We’re not buying it, you pathetic sore losers.

Transparency Int’l Malaysai President Tan Sri Ramon V. Navaratnam seems to think we dropped in the latest TI Corruption Perception index because of “the time lag between the formulation of new policies and the actual implementation of these policies.”
Kindly don’t be ridiculous or obfuscate the issue Tan Sri, we are perceived to be corrupt because we ARE corrupt, and we are corrupt because nobody is serious about integrity, least of all our current formulators of government policy.

I have to highlight my old ‘friend’, YB Dtk Mohamad Said Yusof (BN-Jasin) who said today that religious scholars are turning into Dtk Siti Nurhaliza :| The idiocy of this comparison aside, while many think state religious officials are overstepping their bounds, YB thinks they aren’t doing enough. He must’ve got bored (or scared) of picking on Customs. Sigh.
