Brendan Pereira and Faizal Abdullah step down: Good for them!

In a minor triumph for integrity, Mr. Pereira has been relieved of his post. To his discredit, he made no acknowledgement of his plagiarism and there is no public mention of this sin at all :( A seemingly repentant Faizal Abdullah – Klang Municipal Councillor, Selangor Umno Youth vice-chairman and Kapar Umno Youth chief – did a much better job of finally admitting and facing up to his wrongdoing as he resigns from his Klang councillor post.

Loss: Like a banker not revealed to be a thief, a journalist is not publicly acknowledged to be the plagiarist that he is. Gain: A closet plagiarist loses his job, albeit with ‘full honours’.

I wouldn’t say it’s great start for Malaysia, but it’s a start. Encik Faizal, you got off to a bad start, and it took the MB’s ‘advice’ to get you moving, but good on you.

Well done to Screenshots and Rocky’s Bru for breaking the plagiarism story and being ever vigilant. Thanks to politikus too for the earlier heads-up :)

Some aircond thing blew up at my house today, cutting out the power, and I’m writing from the kind hospitality of my cousin’s house. This plus a number of errands that need to be run means I unfortunately can’t write much on this most newsworthy day, but I’ll try to make it up soon.
